Your bedroom should be a total sanctuary, a lovely clean and clear space you can retreat to at the end of a busy day, somewhere that feels luxurious, comfortable, fresh and airy, a place you can totally relax and get a good nights sleep.
But.. I get it, we don’t all live in mansions and lots of us have small bedrooms and need to pack a lot of *stuff* into that space. We like to think it’s possible to be quite clever with space and choices and totally manage bedroom storage ‘like a boss’ to achieve bedroom bliss.
Top Tips for Bedroom Storage
It feels really good to have a thorough decluttering session, the best way to start is to empty out everything in your bedroom cupboards and wardrobes and I mean everything – tip it all out. Then sort it into five piles…
- Clothes to keep
- Things you love and want to keep
- Clothes/belongings to give to charity
- Clothes/belongings to sell
Once you’ve got your five piles deal with them. Throw out the rubbish, drop off the charity shop items at the local shop and list the items to sell on eBay or similar. Once this is completed you’ll be able to see just what storage you need and how best to use the bedroom space.
Be clever and maximise space – a fabulous way to use space is to invest in an Ottoman Divan base, this means the entire space under the bed can be used for storage, even heavy or large objects can be kept in the divan base, totally out of view meaning your bedroom keeps a tranquil, uncluttered feel. An Ottoman Divan base is a great solution for small bedrooms where space is a premium.
Kon Mari your Clothes
Fit more into your wardrobe by learning the art of folding like Kon Mari, this genius way of folding is one I use, it means you can see at a glance what clothes you have and can easily access them and your cupboards will just stay SO neat.
Use Every Inch of Space
Look at using the backs of your wardrobe doors or bedroom doors adding a simple rod will enable you to hang storage pots from it, increasing your usable space. These little pots are great for storing small, light items like scarves or socks.
Using drawer dividers helps keep things organised and easy to access. We like to use pretty bowls to keep small items like jewellery and make up in.
