This is the year I’m really going to make positive changes to create a healthier lifestyle. I’m not one for strict diets and hardcore exercise BUT what I do need is some healthier habits which will benefit my whole lifestyle.
1. Make healthier food choices
Definitely not a diet, just a bigger effort to make healthier food choices. I’ll be thinking ‘nourish’ not diet.
I’ll be drinking more water and staying properly hydrated – this helps me to eat less, stay more alert and generally feel more energised.
I’ll be making a huge effort to get more sleep and making sure I create a relaxing bedtime routine, having at least 1 hour screen free before sleep and going to bed earlier.
Yes, I’ll be doing more exercise, you won’t find me anywhere near a gym, but I’ll definitely be walking more, dancing whenever I get chance and generally building being more active into my day.
I’m going to switch off from my busy life more and take time to just be distraction free.
6. Drink less alcohol
Cutting down on alcohol units is always a good idea and the benefits of drinking a few less a week will soon stack up.
7. Focus on strength
I’ve definitely overlooked core strength – it’s really easy to neglect strengthening your body when you’ve a super busy lifestyle… So I’ll be scheduling in time every day to plank – it’s the easiest thing to build into my day as I don’t need anything other than me to do it.
8. Eye health
I’ll be taking better care of my eyes. Scheduling in an eye test, grabbing myself some hydrating eye drops and spending less time in front of a screen which always makes my eyes dry and tired.
9. Stop procrastinating
Procrastinating is not good for me, stuff builds up then causes anxiety. I’ll be getting stuff done straight away and just cracking on, no putting stuff off!
10. Spend time with nature
I’ll be getting outdoors more. Spending time with nature is a huge boost to mental and physical wellbeing and always makes me feel good.
11. Being grateful
It takes just a couple of minutes a day to run through in my head the things I’m grateful for in life and it immediately boosts my mood and makes me feel springier and bouncier throughout the day.
12. Say no more often
I’m definitely the type of person who just says yes… then get really annoyed with myself for taking on too much. This year I’ll be saying no a whole lot more AND not feeling bad about it.
13. Declutter my home
I’m fairly good at not having too much clutter, but clutter does build up quickly so it always feels good to go through my belongings and get rid of stuff I don’t love or really need.
14. Manage my time
I’ll be decluttering my life – dropping the things that aren’t completely necessary and the things that don’t make me happy and creating myself a simple time management schedule which means I can fill my time with things I actually want to do, need to do and have time to do things I love.
15. Self care
I’ll be making sure I spend time on me. Doing what I fancy doing – even if it just means finding time to relax in a bubble bath.
I always feel more chilled out when I take time to meditate, so I’m going to make sure I spend just a few minutes in the morning and in the evening meditating.
17. Meat free Monday
Eating less meat is always a good thing so I’ll be making sure I stick to meat free Monday and cooking up some delicious vegetarian food.
18. Do 10,000 steps a day
This really isn’t too difficult to achieve so I’m going to put extra effort in to make sure I hit my 10,000 steps a day – it all counts towards a healthier lifestyle.
19. Sort through my clothes
I’m going to do a huge clear-out of my wardrobe and get rid of anything that doesn’t make me feel happy when I wear it. This will boost confidence and make me feel much happier.
20. Laugh more
I’ll stop taking life so seriously and just have way more FUN!
