Air Fryer Baked Camembert

Air fryer baked camembert is what you make when you didn’t plan anything… but still want it to feel good.

One little box of camembert. A few slashes with a sharp knife. Garlic pushed in. Hot honey over the top. Into the air fryer it goes.

Fifteen minutes later it’s blistered at the edges, molten in the middle and unapologetically messy in the best way. Quick, easy, and dangerously impressive for something that took almost no effort.

Best bit? It’s ready in under 20 minutes. The easiest way to bake camembert in the air fryer without even thinking about turning the oven on.

Yank off chunks of bread and dive straight in. It’s good to share… but there’s no judgement here if you can’t.

• It’s genuinely easy. No preheating the oven. No trays. No drama. Just unwrap, score, top and air fry.

• Minimal washing up. Which matters on a Friday night when the last thing you want is a sink full of pans.

• You can make it your way. Garlic and hot honey is elite, but fresh rosemary, thyme, chilli flakes, lemon zest, a splash of white wine or even a spoon of cranberry sauce all work.

• It looks impressive. Even though it's literally no effort (our fave thing).

Serves: 2 - 4 as a starter
Prep time: 2 minutes
Cook time: 12 - 15 minutes (air fryers vary slightly)
Total time: Under 20 minutes

Perfect for quick appetisers, last-minute guests, or a Friday night snack board.

Air fryer – Any basket-style air fryer works. I use a Ninja Foodi Max Dual Zone, which is great if you’re cooking for a family or want to warm bread in one drawer while the camembert cooks in the other.

Sharp knife – For scoring the top so all that garlicky honey sinks in properly.

Foil or air fryer liner – Stops any cheese escaping and saves you scrubbing later.

Optional: silicone tongs if you like lifting things out neatly without scratching your basket.

ingredients for air fryer baked camembert on a white table - 250g camembert wheel, bottle of hot honey, 6 cloves of garlic

You only need three things for this air fryer baked camembert. Everything else is for dunking.

Camembert – One whole wheel. Most supermarket versions work perfectly.

Hot honey – Sweet with a chilli kick. It melts into the cheese and makes the whole thing next level.

Garlic cloves – Leave them unpeeled, slice thinly and push into the top of the cheese.

That’s it. Then grab bread, crackers or whatever you’ve got for dipping.

It really is this simple.

Take the camembert out of the wooden box and remove the plastic wrapping. Put the cheese back into the base of the box.

Using a sharp knife, score the top in a criss-cross pattern. Not too deep, just enough to let the toppings sink in.

Push thin slices of garlic (leave the skins on) into the cuts in the rind. No need to be precise. This is rustic.

If you’re adding rosemary, thyme, chilli flakes or black pepper, add them now.

Drizzle generously with hot honey.

Place the camembert on a piece of foil or in a small foil tray to catch any ooze.

Cook in the air fryer at 180°C for 12–15 minutes.

When your air fryer baked camembert is ready, the edges will be bubbling and the centre will feel soft and slightly wobbly when you gently press the top - that’s your cue it’s perfectly molten inside. Start checking from 12 minutes.

The beauty of baked camembert is you can build the whole thing around whatever’s already in your kitchen. Here are my go-to pairings:

Bread (essential).
Toasted sourdough rubbed with garlic and olive oil is elite. Fresh baguette or good crackers work just as well.

Olives.
Salty, briny contrast against the sweet-hot cheese.

Beetroot.
Trust it. Gooey cheese, crusty bread and sweet earthy beetroot is ridiculously good.

Vine tomatoes.
A pop of freshness on the side.

Nuts.
Walnuts or pecans add crunch and balance the richness.

Fruit.
Black grapes or sliced pears are classic with camembert.

Jams or syrups.
Cranberry sauce, quince jelly or even a drizzle of maple syrup if you’re leaning sweet.

Don’t cut too deep.
When scoring the top of the camembert, keep the cuts shallow. You want the garlic and honey to sink in, not the cheese to collapse and leak everywhere.

Check it early.
All air fryers run slightly differently. Start checking at 12 minutes. The centre should feel soft and slightly wobbly when pressed. If it’s still firm, give it another minute or two.

If it’s overcooked…
If the camembert splits and spills, it’s usually just gone a minute too long. It’ll still taste amazing, just scoop it up with bread and call it rustic.

Use foil or a liner.
Camembert can ooze once molten. A small foil tray or liner saves you scrubbing burnt cheese off the basket later.

Let it rest for 1–2 minutes.
Straight out of the air fryer it will be lava-hot. Giving it a minute helps the centre settle into that perfect gooey consistency.

Want it extra flavourful?
Add fresh rosemary, thyme, cracked black pepper or chilli flakes before cooking. A squeeze of lemon over the top after cooking also works surprisingly well.

How long do you cook camembert in an air fryer?

Cook camembert at 180°C for 12–15 minutes. Start checking at around 12 minutes, as air fryers vary slightly. The centre should feel soft and slightly wobbly when pressed.

Can you put camembert straight into the air fryer?

Yes. Just remove the plastic wrapping and place the cheese back in the wooden base, or onto a small piece of foil to catch any melted cheese.

Do you need to wrap camembert in foil in the air fryer?

It’s not essential, but lining the basket with foil or using a small foil tray makes cleaning up much easier if the cheese splits and leaks.

How do you know when baked camembert is ready?

The edges will be bubbling and the centre will feel soft and molten under the rind. If it still feels firm in the middle, give it another minute or two.

Can you reheat baked camembert?

It’s best eaten straight away while the centre is gooey. I do not reheat baked camembert.

What can I serve with air fryer baked camembert?

Crusty bread, sourdough toast, crackers, olives, grapes, pears, nuts or a spoon of cranberry sauce all work beautifully.
