Quick Answer – Can You Wrap Chicken In Foil In The Air Fryer?

Yes, you can cook chicken breast wrapped in foil in the air fryer.

Cook a boneless skinless chicken breast foil packet at 200°C for around 30 minutes, then check the thickest part reaches 75°C before serving.

Foil packet chicken works well because:

  • it helps keep the chicken juicy
  • it locks in flavour
  • it makes clean-up easier
  • you can add vegetables, herbs and sauces in the same packet

Always leave enough room for hot air to circulate in the air fryer basket and never block the entire basket with foil.

Why You’ll Love Air Fryer Chicken Foil Packets

This is such a handy air fryer chicken recipe to keep in your meal rotation.

  • Super juicy chicken breast
  • Easy to customise with different flavours

Why This Method Works So Well

Cooking chicken in foil packets helps trap moisture and flavour around the chicken breast as it cooks.

That means you get:

  • an easy dinner with very little prep

It’s especially useful if you normally find chicken breast a bit dry.

How To Make Air Fryer Chicken Breast Foil Packets

These chicken foil packets are really simple to make.

Step 1 – Prepare The Foil

Lay out a sheet of foil large enough to wrap the chicken securely.

Add the olive oil to the centre of the foil and spread it over an area roughly the size of the chicken breast.

This helps stop the chicken sticking.

Step 2 – Add The Chicken And Flavourings

If you’re adding vegetables or herbs, place them in the middle of the foil first.

Lay the chicken breast on top.

Season with salt and pepper, then add your chosen sauces, herbs, spices or toppings.

Step 3 – Seal The Foil Packet

Bring the foil up around the chicken and scrunch the edges together firmly so the parcel is sealed.

This helps keep all the juices and flavour inside while cooking.

Step 4 – Cook In The Air Fryer

Place the foil packet into the air fryer basket.

Cook at 200°C for 30 minutes.

Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may be able to cook 2 to 4 packets at once, as long as there is space around them for air to circulate.

Step 5 – Check The Chicken Is Cooked

Carefully remove the foil packet using tongs and open it slowly, taking care with the hot steam.

Check the thickest part of the chicken breast reaches 75°C using a digital food thermometer.

If it isn’t fully cooked yet, seal the packet again and return it to the air fryer for another 5 minutes, then check again.

Step 6 – Finish And Serve

Once cooked through, serve the chicken straight from the foil packet or transfer it to a plate with your chosen side dishes.

Special Note For Pizza Chicken Foil Packets

For the pizza chicken version, cook the foil packet as normal first.

Then during the final 5 minutes of cooking:

  • carefully open the foil packet
  • sprinkle over the cheese
  • return it to the air fryer with the foil slightly open

This helps the cheese melt and brown nicely.
