Air Fryer Tinned Potatoes

For a quick cheat version of roast potatoes just toss some tinned potatoes in olive oil and throw them in the air fryer!

Our air fryer canned potatoes are quick, super easy and a great way to cheat at roast potatoes!

You can have these ready to eat in around 20 minutes! And don’t just think of them as a side dish for dinner! These hot little roast potatoes are great with breakfast fried eggs and a dollop of baked beans.

I usually have a couple of cans of tinned potatoes in the cupboard at home, because they’re great to grab for a quick meal idea.

Try them sliced into omelettes, a quick potato salad or in my quick mixed vegetable curry which uses canned potatoes, frozen vegetables and curry paste – brilliant standby dinner!

Delicious served with our roasted whole chicken in the air fryer.

  • Save money on fuel! The air fryer costs less than a traditional kitchen oven to use. Plus with our canned potatoes recipe – no need to par boil!
  • Using pre-cooked tinned potatoes saves time on preparation – no need to peel or par-boil. Just drain, toss in oil and cook.
  • This is a quick and versatile little dish – you can serve it as a side to dinner, goes great with a slow cooker casserole. Or you can eat them for breakfast with eggs. Or even as a snack dipped in hummus.

Equipment Needed

  • Air fryer – we use a Tefal air fryer (Little update! We’ve gone BIGGER with the air fryer – we’ve swapped to a Ninja Foodi Max Dual Zone Air Fryer – the 9.5 litre two drawer cooking space is BRILLIANT when you’re cooking for a family. And it makes cooking meat, chicken or fish and potatoes at the same time super easy!
  • Tablespoon 
  • Bowl – for mixing the potatoes with cooking oil
  • Colander or sieve
  • Couple of sheets of paper kitchen roll

Air Fryer Tinned Potatoes Ingredients

For the basic air fryer canned potatoes recipe you’ll just need four ingredients – but we’ve popped some extra flavour ideas below for you too!

  • 560g canned potatoes
  • 1 tbsp olive oil – you can swap this for rapeseed oil or sunflower oil if you prefer
  • Pinch salt
  • Pinch black pepper

How To Make Air Fryer Tinned Potatoes

You are really going to love how quick and easy our air fryer canned potatoes recipe is to make!

Step One – open and drain the tinned potatoes

  • Open the cans of potatoes and drain quickly using a colander over the sink.
  • Then pat the potatoes dry with some paper kitchen roll.

Step Two – toss the canned potatoes in oil and seasoning ready to air fry

  • Put the canned potatoes into a bowl and pour over the olive oil.
  • Scatter over the salt and black pepper.
  • Give everything a mix together so that all the potatoes are coated with the oil and seasoning.

Step Three – cook the air fryer tinned potatoes

  • Tip the seasoned canned potatoes into the air fryer basket.
  • Then cook on 190C for around 20-25 minutes or until they’re crispy and golden on the outsides. Be sure to give the air fryer basket a shake every 7-8 minutes so that they cook evenly.

Step Four – serve the air fryer tinned potatoes

  • Remove the crispy roasted canned potatoes from the air fryer and serve this air fryer side dish with whatever you like.

These go great with scrambled or fried eggs, baked beans or tinned tomatoes. You could also add bacon, sausages and mushrooms.

Serve with a dip – try hummus, salsa, cream cheese or ketchup on the side.

Air Fryer Tinned Potatoes Recipe Variations

Fancy spicing things up a little? Try adding some extra herbs or spices to your potatoes before air frying

  • Italian – sprinkle in some Italian seasonings like garlic powder, dried oregano and thyme.
  • Spicy – add a pinch of curry powder, ground cumin, chilli powder or even toss them in curry paste.
