Bolton Food Festival
Oh my goodness just HOW lucky are we to have the Bolton Food Festival literally just down the road. This amazing festival is now in it’s 14th year and we headed on down for the weekend to check out everything it had to offer.
Honestly if you’ve not been to the Bolton Food Festival yet then you’re completely missing out! It’s huge! A total foodie destination that just simply doesn’t disappoint. There’s so much to see, do, eat and drink – take our advice – go hungry! You’ll want to eat absolutely everything. The delicious smells from the street traders is so utterly tempting you’re literally spoilt for choice.
And of course it’s not just food and drink that’s on offer at the Bolton Food Festival there’s four jam packed days of live music, pop up pubs and bars, street entertainers, special celebrity chef cooking demonstrations, comedy nights and a kids zone filled with fun activities to keep the children busy.
The atmosphere at Bolton Food Festival is brilliant – proper Northern happy, warm, welcoming people and everyone just enjoys themselves. It’s super well organised by Bolton Council, there’s plenty of space to get around all the food vendors and craft stalls. As well as a big, spacious outdoor bar and live music stage.
We went to Day 2 of the Bolton Food Festival – check out a quick taster of the day here.
Bolton Food Festival Celebrity Chef Cooking Demonstrations
We caught up with the Hairy Bikers over at the first cooking show of the day – and in just an hour they cooked up some amazing easy to make at home recipes.
- Soy Glazed Salmon with Garlic Bok Choy
- Parma Ham, Peach and Goats Cheese Tart
- Chocolate Chilli Cookies
The show was really fun – lively and packed with punchlines! Think stand up comedians but with food! We had such a great time and can’t wait to give the recipes a go – I’ve bought the ingredients for the tart already!
James Martin at Bolton Food & Drink Festival
Well… the food festival is so good we squeezed in another trip on Day 4 to watch James Martin and it was fantastic. He made a range of mouthwatering dishes….
- Monkfish with Korean aubergines
- Fresh tagliatelle with beurre blanc and sizzled sea bass
- EPIC cheese and ham toastie (we’ll come back to that baby in a minute!)
- Summer fruit pudding with clotted cream
Now… let’s get back to that James Martin EPIC cheese and ham toastie…. This recipe is from his new series to be aired February 2020. We’re talking sourdough loaf stuffed with a heady combination of thick, rich buttery, creamy, cheese sauce, slices of ham, loads of grated cheese AND crispy fried pancetta (I think…I was distracted by the cheese) baked and melted in the oven until PERFECT.
Honestly I can’t wait for the new series so I can drool over it allover again!

So much food, so little time to eat it!
The range of food on offer at the festival is just insane! There’s so much to choose from and it all looks so very good! Delicious treats like halloumi fries, Indian street food, loads and loads of different tapas dishes, Thai, noodles, Yorkshire pudding wraps – which looked ridiculously good.
Wood fired pizzas, gourmet burgers to name but a few along with delicious artisan food produce to take home.
We settled on Polish food for lunch because we’ve never tried it before – we called over at Dobra Kitchen and ate some seriously tasty lunch – fried sliced potatoes with spicy sausage, thick bacon, peppers, onions and herbs and spices topped with a very generous helping of garlicky yogurt mayo dressing.
I’m definitely going to try recreate this dish at home it was so delicious and I’m thinking perfect for the cold autumn days that are coming.
