Super easy onion gravy recipe using Bisto and it’s PERFECT for pouring all over your bangers and mash!
I make no apologies for just how simple, quick and cheat-y this recipe is.
Sometimes I want onion gravy and I want it ready in just minutes I don’t want to faff and wait for it to simmer and bubble away to perfection.
I just want to slop it on my sausages and dribble it over my cheat-y Aunt Bessie Yorkshire puddings.
If you fancy making your own, here’s the ‘cough’ recipe! I usually use the ‘posh’ Bisto… you know, the beef one in the glass jar!
Cheat’s Onion Gravy Recipe with Bisto

Ingredients for Onion Gravy

- 30g Butter
- 1 Red Onion
- 4 tsp Bisto Gravy Granules
- 300ml Boiling Water
How To Make Onion Gravy

- Peel and slice the red onion into half moons – you can do this as thin or as thick as you like.

- Melt the butter in a saucepan over a medium heat until it just starts to sizzle.

- Tip in the red onions slices.

- Gently fry the onions over a medium heat until they’re softened – stir often so they don’t stick.

- When the onions are almost done – add 4 tsp of Bisto Gravy Granules to a measuring jug

- Pour in 300ml of boiling water onto the Bisto Gravy Granules and stir until all the granules are dissolved.

- When your red onions are cooked through – slowly pour the gravy into the saucepan with the fried onions.

- Return the pan to the hob and continue to stir over a low heat until everything is mixed together and the gravy starts to thicken slightly.

- The easy onion gravy is ready to serve when it’s thickened slightly.
