Cheese And Bacon Turnovers Ingredients

You’ll just need four ingredients to make these tasty little bacon and cheese turnovers – plus some optional toppings

ingredients for cheese and bacon turnovers - bacon, grated cheese, whisked egg and packet of puff pastry
  • 320g puff pastry sheet – I usually pick up the Jus-Rol puff pastry sheets from the supermarket
  • 150g Cheddar cheese – grated
  • 6 slices smoked bacon – I remove all the fat
  • 1 egg – whisked with a fork
  • Optional toppings to sprinkle on the puff pastry – cracked black pepper, sesame seeds, dried mixed herbs, poppy seeds or smoked paprika all taste good!

Equipment Needed

  • Baking tray
  • Sharp knife
  • Cheese grater
  • Scissors (for trimming bacon)
  • Small bowl or cup
  • Fork
  • Pastry brush

How To Make Cheese And Bacon Turnovers

You are going to just LOVE how simple these little cheese and bacon pastry are to make!

Step One – Preheat the oven

  • Preheat the oven to 200C / 400F / Gas Mark 6
  • Take the puff pastry out of the fridge at least 20 minutes before you want to use it.
  • If you’re not using a non-stick baking tray then it’s a good idea to lightly grease the baking tray just using a little olive oil on some kitchen paper.

Step Two – Make up the cheese and bacon turnovers

  • Cut the puff pastry sheet into six equal parts.
  • Sprinkle grated cheese down the centre – on the diagonal.
  • Then lay on the bacon slice and using a pastry brush, just brush a little beaten egg onto the corners of the pastry you’re about to wrap. This just helps it to stick on not unroll during cooking.
  • Next, fold the pastry corners over and tuck one just underneath the bacon and cheese turnover so it doesn’t unravel when cooking.
  • Brush the tops of the bacon and cheese wrap with the beaten egg. Then if you’re adding some sprinkles on top, do this now – we’ve just used a pinch of Italian herbs on each turnover.

  • Place the tray of bacon turnover into the oven and cook for around 30 minutes or until the pastry is puffed and risen and the bacon cooked through properly.
  • Once cooked, remove from the tray and allow to cool slightly before eating.
