Our Cheesy Pull Apart Bread recipe is RIDICULOUSLY GOOD! Tiger bread stuffed with cheese, garlic butter, ham and chillies – you’ll want this ALL THE TIME!

We’re going to struggle to put into words just how good this garlic tiger bread feast is!

Seriously… soft, fluffy tiger bread, drenched in delicious garlic butter then stuffed to bursting with tangy Cheddar cheese, delicious shredded ham and lots of chillies.

And once it’s perfectly stuffed, it’s baked until melted, gooey and oh so moreish! You will not be able to leave this alone!

Equipment Needed

  • Weighing scales (or just estimate quantities)
  • Bread knife
  • Bread board
  • Sharp knife
  • Chopping board
  • Grater
  • Microwave proof bowl or jug
  • Spoon
  • Large sheet of tin foil – to fit the entire loaf in wrapped up
  • Baking tray

Cheesy Pull Apart Bread Ingredients

You’ll only need a handful of tasty ingredients to make our delicious cheese bread

  • 600g tiger loaf – feel free to use smaller or larger loaves, and you don’t need to stick to tiger bread – just use your favourite bloomer, wholemeal, sourdough, seeded, they all work great!
  • 200g butter
  • 2 cloves garlic – you can add more or less garlic, just use what you like – if you like things really garlicky then add extras.
  • 200g shredded ham – you can use home cooked shredded ham or packets of sandwich ham, snipped with scissors.
  • 250g Cheddar cheese – grated, again – feel free to use whatever cheese you like, mix things up a little.
  • 1-2 red chillies – chopped – this is also gorgeous made with candied jalapeños in place of the chillies.
  • Pinch salt
  • Pinch black pepper

How To Make Cheesy Pull Apart Bread

Just follow our simple step by step instructions for making your own crack bread – it’s super easy!

Step One – make the garlic butter

  • Firstly peel the garlic cloves and grate them on the fine side of the grater into a microwaveable bowl or jug.
  • Add the butter and then put the bowl into the microwave for around 20 seconds on high, or until the butter is melted and pourable.

Step Two – cut the tiger loaf ready to make cheesy pull apart bread

  • Cut the loaf into a criss cross pattern which leaves diamonds of bread, ready to be pulled. Make sure you don’t cut right the way through the loaf – leave about 1cm of the loaf base uncut to keep the loaf together.
  • Next put the loaf onto a large sheet of tin foil – one that’s big enough to wrap right around the loaf. Then sit the loaf onto the baking tray.
  • Preheat the oven to 180C / 350F / Gas Mark 4

Step Three – pour over some garlic butter

  • Prise open the gaps in the bread so that you can pour a little bit of garlic butter down each gap – the better spread out you can get the butter the yummier the whole cheesy bread recipe will taste!
  • If you have any butter left, save this to pour over the crack bread after stuffing.

Step Four – stuff the cheesy crack bread

  • Pull open the slits in the bread and stuff the cheese, ham and chillies along each cut.
  • Any leftover ingredients just scatter over the top once you’re finished.
  • If you had any leftover melted garlic butter then pour this over the top of the cheesy pull apart bread now.
  • Wrap the foil tightly around the stuffed cheesy garlic tiger bread.

Step Five – bake the cheesy pull apart bread

  • Bake in the oven tightly wrapped for around 20 minutes until the cheese is all melted and delicious.
  • Then open up the foil and bake for a further 5-10 minutes just to allow the bread crust to crisp up a little.

Step Six – serve

  • Slide the cheesy pull apart bread onto a serving board or plate, scatter over any bits that have fallen into the tin foil and pour over any butter that’s soaked through.

Okay so this is super rich and loaded with butter and cheese, so when I add sides I tend to make them vegetable based!

You can switch up our crack bread recipe to suit your own tastes – add in extras or swap things you’re not keen on.

You can skip the meat altogether and just make your pull apart bread cheesy. Or you could add in some mushrooms, sweet corn or vegetarian ham.

Super spicy cheesy pull apart bread

Go extra spicy and add some chilli flakes to the garlic butter and some extra chillies in with the cheesy stuffing.

Make your garlic and cheese bread pizza style! Stuff the cracks with mozzarella, shredded Cheddar, pepperoni, tomato paste and olives.

Dollop spoonfuls of pesto down the cracks, then add the cheese, shredded ham and chillies.

Swap the shredded ham for tuna and prawns. And you’ll end up with a stuffed garlic bread with seafood, totally yummy!

What To Do With Leftover Crack Bread

In the very unlikely event you have leftovers….

Just wrap the cheese loaf in foil and it’ll keep in the fridge for unto 48 hours, provided all the ingredients you used are within their use-by date.
