  • Chopping board

  • Pie dish – no pie dish? Just use a casserole dish or a smallish roasting tin instead
  • Saucepan
  • Cooking spoon
  • Fork
  • Small cup/bowl
  • Pastry brush

Chicken Tikka Pie Ingredients

You only need a handful of tasty, simple to find ingredients to make our delicious chicken tikka masala pie!

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion – diced
  • 1 pepper – diced
  • 600g chicken breast – diced
  • 450g tikka masala sauce – shop bought, in a jar, ready to use – we used Patak’s
  • 320g shortcrust pastry sheet – shop bought, ready to use
  • 1 egg – beaten
  • 1 tsp nigella seeds – optional – just to sprinkle on top of the pastry

How To Make Chicken Tikka Pie

It’s really easy to make our curry chicken pie – seriously simple!

Step One – make the chicken tikka masala pie filling

  • Add the olive oil to a saucepan over a medium heat.
  • Tip in the onions and peppers and fry for around five minutes – stirring often, until they start to just soften.
  • Then add the diced chicken breast, and continue to fry until it changes colour from pink to white.
  • Next, pour in the tikka masala sauce and give everything a mix together using a cooking spoon.
  • Bring the chicken tikka masala to the boil, then reduce the heat and simmer with the lid on for around 20 minutes.

Cooks Note! If you’re going to skip making the pie and eat the curry at this stage, be sure the chicken is cooked through properly first!

Cooks Note! Get the pastry sheet out of the fridge around 20 minutes before you want to use it.

Step Two – preheat the oven

  • Preheat the oven to 200C / 400F / Gas Mark 6

Step Three – make the chicken tikka pie

  • Tip the chicken tikka masala pie filling into the pie dish.
  • Unroll the pastry sheet and place on top of the pie dish, trim the edges, then crimp them with a fork. Cut a few air/steam holes in the top of the pie.
  • Brush the top of the pie with the beaten egg and sprinkle on the nigella seeds if you’re using.

Step Four – bake the chicken tikka pie

  • Place the curry chicken pie into the oven and bake for around 30 – 40 minutes or until the shortcrust pastry top is risen, golden and cooked through properly.
  • Once cooked through, remove the curry pie from the oven and serve.

Take our chicken curry pie recipe and give it your own twist!

  • Switch the Indian curry sauce – make a chicken balti pie or super spicy chicken vindaloo pie. You could even opt for a Chinese curry sauce and make a Chinese chicken curry pie.
  • Swap the pastry – make our pie with puff pastry, filo pastry or even a layer of mashed potatoes!
  • Swap the meat – you could swap the meat, opt for a lamb balti pie, or turkey bhuna pie!
