How To Make Christmas Scones
When it comes to baking scones, I do it the way my grandma did, so I shape them with a knife, I find this the easiest way as it’s how I’ve done it since forever! But feel free to use a pastry cutter if you prefer.
Step One – Preheat the oven – ready for baking our festive scone recipe
- Preheat the oven to 220C / 425F / Gas Mark 7 / 200C (fan oven)
- Grease a baking sheet with a little butter to stop the scones from sticking whilst they are baking.
Step Two – Make the cranberry and mincemeat scone mix
- Tip the flour and baking powder into a mixing bowl
- Add in the butter and rub it into the flour using your finger tips until it resembles fine breadcrumbs
- Tip in the sugar, mincemeat and dried cranberries and stir them through the butter and flour mixture.

- Then make a well in the middle and pour in the milk.
- Stir the scone mix together using a knife to bind all the ingredients to a thick dough.

- Then put your hands into the mix and finish the scone mix off by hand, just pressing it lightly together (don’t over-handle), just knead it really gently to make one piece of dough.
Step Three – Shape the dough into scones
- Then cut the dough into 8 equal pieces using as sharp knife.
- Dust the surface with flour and pat each scone into a scone shape on the floured surface using your hand a knife, then place them onto the baking tray ready to bake.
- Brush the tops of the scones with the beaten egg.

Step Three – Bake the Christmas scones
- Put the scones into the hot oven and bake for around 12-15 minutes until they’re risen and golden on top.
- Then remove from the oven and place onto a wire rack to cool down.
- Once cool dust the tops of the scones with icing sugar, just shake it through the sieve lightly.
Would it even be Christmas without a glass of Bucks Fizz?
