A busy family home needs a little organisation. Kids and pets will mean cleaning is something you’ll be doing a lot of every day!

Wherever possible I clean with eco-friendly non-toxic products this is especially important to me in a family home. I tend to buy eco-kitchen cleaner and bathroom cleaner for everyday use.

When mopping I usually use hot water, washing up liquid and a couple of drops of essential oil to make it smell just gorgeous.

Naturally there are some messy jobs that do require antibacterial spray or bleach. When you have kids and pets sometimes you just really need to bust germs and be sure surfaces are hygienically clean, especially during and after illness.

In a family home all cleaning products need to be stored well out of reach of children with child safety door catches for added protection.

I do try to choose products with multiple use so that it reduces the amount of products I need overall.

List of Cleaning Supplies Every Household Should Have

These are the cleaning products I like to keep in stock at home and it usually means whatever the mess is I can sort it out easily.

  • washing up liquid
  • dishwasher tablets/rinse aid/dishwasher salt
  • bleach
  • antibacterial spray
  • kitchen cleaner
  • furniture polish
  • window/mirror cleaner
  • soda crystals
  • salt
  • bicarbonate of soda
  • white vinegar
  • laundry detergent
  • fabric softener
  • stain remover
  • basic white soap bar
  • bathroom cleaner
  • soft cleaning cloths
  • dusters
  • mop and bucket
  • vacuum cleaner
  • dustpan and brush
  • sweeping brush
  • specialist cleaning products – granite/leather/brass/stainless steel etc
  • feather duster
  • rubber gloves – kitchen and bathroom pair
  • scouring sponges and brillo pads
  • bin liners
  • paper kitchen towels

I do keep a few “green cleaning” extras in stock at home too so that I can mix up my own natural cleaning products. So I do keep a selection of essential oils which I use in homemade cleaners and in oil burners around the house.

I usually have Tea Tree, Lavender, Eucalyptus and Peppermint oil in the cupboard at home always.

I also keep dried lavender which is great for freshening up rugs, carpets and making little lavender bags to go in shoe cupboards.

Keeping a well stocked cleaning cupboard is all part of a good housework routine it just means the home runs more easily and that means less stress.
