For a great day out in Lancashire I really am a sucker for a farmers market, I love the enthusiasm of the producers, the stories behind what they are doing and why, the way they can’t wait to talk to you about their produce and the passion they have.
This is a lovely little market with a good variety of locally produced fresh food and creative crafts ranging from delicious meats, cheese, fruit and vegetables to oils, cheeses, olives and beautiful bread, ale and soap. It’s set in the beautiful Cuerden Valley Park which boasts 650 acres of stunning rural Lancashire countryside. The park offers great facilities for walking, cycling and also holds a variety of events in addition to the Farmers Market. It really is worth a visit.
Getting back to the FOOD! I particularly liked Bowland Outdoor Reared Pork which is a small family run business in the Forest of Bowland. I can highly recommend their ‘Manchester Dangler” sausages made with Boddingtons Beer. They are just a bit fabulous tucked on a barm cake with a fried egg. I also liked Savin Hill Farm & Butchery based in Kendal. Their lamb & mint sausages are amazing!
I can definitely confirm that Paul from Lady Mabel’s Ales is a fabulous brewer! I’m really quite a fan of his mango & cinnamon ale. If you get an opportunity to buy it, you really should!
I couldn’t resist buying some amazing cheddar with tequila, chilli & lime from the lovely Cheese is Grate stall. She also sold a sticky toffee cheese! Just wow!
On my next visit I’m definitely hoping to buy some lovely honey from the Crossmoor Honey Farm with honey infused with flavours like vanilla, rose water and chilli – I’m thinking these will be a necessary addition to my kitchen.
