Step One – preheat the oven
- Preheat the oven to 200C / 400F / Gas Mark 6
- Lightly grease a baking tray with butter
Step Two – make the scone dough
- Tip the flour into a mixing bowl, tip the butter into the flour and then rub the butter into the flour using your fingertips, you really want it to be like fine breadcrumbs.

- Tip the grated cheese and mustard powder into the flour mixture. Mix it through the flour using a knife.

- Pour the milk into the flour and stir the scone mixture with a knife to bring it together as a soft dough.

- Then put your hands into the bowl and lightly knead the cheese scone dough, then using the knife divide it into six fairly equal portions.

- Sprinkle a little flour onto your hands, then pick up each portion of dough, mould it into a scone shape using your hands, then pat it onto the baking tray, ready for the oven.
- Brush the tops lightly with milk, and sprinkle over the last of the grated cheese.

Step Three - bake the cheese scones
- Put the savoury scones into the oven and bake for around 10-15 minutes or until the tops are starting to turn golden and the cheese is melted.

How To Store Cheese Scones
Okay, so these are absolutely best eaten fresh, preferably still warm from the oven, but you can store them for later if you like.
Just be sure to allow them to cool down properly, then store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
Cooks Tip! When I do store them for later, I warm them up in the microwave before eating, this softens them and melts the cheese. Just be sure to reheat thoroughly.
