How To Make Minced Beef Fried Rice

It’s super easy to make our minced beef fried rice, and if you want this to be a one-pot meal, use microwave rice instead of boiling your own.

Step One – cook the rice

  • Cook the rice as per the packet instructions – once cooked, drain and leave in colander, over the pan to drain for a couple of minutes. (if you’re using microwave rice, don’t cook that just yet)

Step Two – whilst the rice cooks make the hoisin minced beef

  • Add a tbsp of sesame oil to the wok, stir fry the diced onions for 5 minutes over a high heat to soften them.
  • Then tip in the minced beef, frozen peas, garlic powder and Chinese five spice powder. Break the minced beef up into the pan with a cooking spoon and fry everything together over a medium heat, until the minced beef is browning.
  • Pour in the hoisin sauce and stir into the minced beef mixture. Fry everything together over a high heat for 8-10 minutes or until the minced beef is cooked through properly. You can add some black pepper here to season if you wish. You probably won’t need to add salt as there’s salt in the hoisin sauce and the soy sauce used later is salty too.
  • Once the minced beef is cooked through, tip it onto a plate, whilst you stir fry the rice.

Step Three – stir fry the rice

  • Add another tablespoon of sesame oil to the wok, over a medium high heat. Then tip in the beaten eggs and fry for a couple of minutes, stirring with a cooking spoon (a little like making scrambled eggs).
  • Then before the eggs set, toss in the hot cooked rice, and mix it into the eggs, stirring with a spoon the whole time. Pour over the dark soy sauce, and stir fry everything for a couple of minutes.

Cooks Note! If using microwave sachets of rice, cook these as per the packet instructions and then stir into the eggs as above.

Step Four – add the minced beef back to the rice

  • Tip the hoisin cooked ground beef back into the pan with the fried rice and mix everything together. Then serve.

Step Five – serve the minced beef fried rice

  • Divide the minced beef fried rice between the serving bowls, scatter with the sliced spring onions, and chopped coriander. Then for those who like things with a kick of spice, drizzle over the sriracha sauce.
