Our Halloumi Fries are little sticks of heaven! Delicious halloumi tossed in a smoky paprika and garlic seasoned flour then fried. They make the perfect starter, snack or main! And what’s more YOU’LL LOVE THEM!

Halloumi fries are the most delicious thing! Whenever I’m a street market or food festival I beeline to the Halloumi stall!

These cheesy fries are super tasty still warm from cooking and dunked into a creamy yogurt dip or drizzled with sweet chilli sauce.

Mmmm when I’m eating them I already can’t wait until the next time I make them!

Halloumi Fries Ingredients

For the Halloumi Fries

  • 250g halloumi cheese
  • 1 tbs plain flour – I usually use gluten free plain flour for this recipe
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Sunflower oil – to fry
  • Small bunch coriander – roughly chopped

For the Yogurt Dip

  • 4 tbs Greek yogurt
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Zest of a lemon
  • Juice half a lemon
  • 1/2 tsp candied jalapeños – finely chopped – if you can’t find these just use a small chilli.
  • Salt and black pepper – to taste

  • Chopping board
  • Sharp knife
  • Frying pan
  • Slotted spoon
  • Plate
  • Paper kitchen towel
  • Shallow bowl
  • Tablespoon
  • Teaspoon
  • Small bowl
  • Grater
  • Lemon juicer

How To Make Halloumi Fries

You are just going to LOVE how easy it is to make this delicious Halloumi recipe!

For the Yogurt Dip

  • Simply add all the dip ingredients to a small bowl and mix well to combine.

For the Halloumi Fries

  • Cut the block of halloumi into thick slices. Then cut each slice into chunky chips.
  • In a shallow bowl mix together the flour, smoked paprika and garlic powder.
  • Toss each halloumi stick into the seasoned flour.

How to cook Halloumi Fries

  • Pour around 1cm depth of sunflower oil into a small frying pan and warm over a medium heat.
  • Once the oil is sizzling hot gently lower the halloumi fries into the oil in batches of around 5-6 chips.
  • Fry for around 90 seconds, then gently turn over to fry the other side.
  • Once the halloumi fries are a delicious golden colour, remove them from the oil with a slotted spoon and leave on kitchen paper to soak up some of the cooking oil.
  • To serve scatter with the chopped coriander and serve with the creamy yogurt dip and enjoy!

These delicious halloumi sticks are perfect served just as they are, eaten hot from a paper bag and dunked into the creamy yogurt dip.

Can you cook halloumi fries in the oven?


Yes – you can can cook them in the oven. Heat the oven to 200C – place the floured halloumi sticks on a lightly greased non-stick oven tray and bake for around 10-15 minutes until the outside is turning golden.

Can you deep fry the halloumi fries?


Yes – totally. I use a Tefal Oleoclean fryer. Deep fry in vegetable oil (I use rapeseed) for around a minute or so until crisp and golden.

Can I make gluten free halloumi fries?


Yes – just use gluten free plain flour and be sure your spices are gluten free too.
