Cheese and Ham Pie with Puff Pastry

Looking for puff pastry dinner ideas then I think you’ll just LOVE our super easy Cheese and Ham Pie. It’s quick, simple and totally delicious!

Oh this is just one of the easiest pie recipes ever!

Cheese and ham pie made using a puff pastry sheet will literally take you 10 minutes to prepare. It’s great as a simple family meal.

I usually just add some salads if I’m serving it for lunch, or you can make it into a more filling meal by adding baked potatoes, maybe a side of BBQ baked beans.

But mostly… I think you’re just going to LOVE how easy it is to make!

Cheese and ham pie ingredients

  • 320g puff pastry sheet – ready rolled
  • 6 slices ham – snipped into strips
  • 1 egg – beaten

How to make cheese and ham pie

  • Preheat the oven – whack the oven on to 200C / 400F /Gas Mark 6
  • Line a baking tray – next take a large baking tray or roasting tin and line it with a sheet of baking paper add just a sprinkling of semolina flour if you have it – if not just use plain flour. It’ll just stop the pastry sticking.

  • Unroll the puff pastry sheet – and lay it onto the baking paper – then take a sharp knife and make slanted cuts in the pastry down both sides leaving a good sized gap in the middle for the filling.

  • Add the cheese and ham pie filling – add a layer of grated cheese, then the snipped ham, then the reset of the cheese. And egg wash the pastry all away around the filling.

  • Plait the pastry – pull the pastry strips up around the filling in a plait pattern.

  • Brush the cheese and ham pie with egg – use a pastry brush to put egg wash all over the the pie so it turns a lovely golden brown as it cooks.

  • Bake the ham and cheese pie – put the pie into the hot oven and bake for around 30 minutes or until the pastry is all risen and puffed and golden brown. Remove the pie from the oven and cool on a wire rack for around 15 minutes before serving.

Make cheese and ham pie your way

  • Add some pesto – spread on a layer of pesto onto the base before adding the cheese.
  • Try different cheeses – our ham and cheese pie is delicious made with Cheddar, blue cheese, mozzarella or any cheese you fancy really!

A super easy cheese pie recipe

Prep Time 10 minutes
Cook Time 30 minutes
Total Time 40 minutes

Ingredients

  • 320g puff pastry sheet 
  • 200g cheese - grated 
  • 6 slices ham
  • 1 egg - beaten
