Okay, it’s pretty yack to find ants have invaded your home and they’re marching up and down. Most of the time it’s impossible to see where they’re even coming from. I’m always reluctant to use chemical pest killers, especially indoors because of having kids and dogs. Equally I don’t want ants indoors either.
So I figured I’d try a natural remedy and the one I mixed up was just from household things I had to hand. The ant killer spray takes just minutes to mix up. I sprayed it on the ants I could see and it killed them instantly. I also sprayed it along the routes I thought they may be coming into the house and guess what? No more ants! I’ve been spraying it every few days just to be sure it keeps repelling them.
Homemade ant killer spray
- spay bottle
- 1/4 cup white vinegar
- 2 cups water
- 10 drops Eucalyptus essential oil
- 1 tiny drop of washing up liquid
Just pour the ingredients into the spray bottle, shake to mix.
I’ve used the spray on wooden flooring, laminate flooring, painted surfaces and around window frames. It’s not left any marks or stains, but if you are worried then do a test patch first in an ‘hidden’ area just to be sure for yourself. Obviously if you have pets, keep them away from the areas you’ve sprayed just like you would with chemical sprays in case the essential oils cause a reaction.
*Health Caution* I’m happy to use essential oils in the home, however when using natural essential oils it’s important to note that some natural essential oils are contraindicated for use with certain health conditions and pregnancy, always check before you use them and if in doubt consult a qualified aromatherapist. Always store oils and homemade ant spray out of reach of children.
