Equipment Needed For Making Air Fryer Sausage Rolls

  • Sharp knife
  • 2 Bowls
  • Fork
  • Pastry brush (if you don’t have one, just dab the beaten egg on with your fingers)
  • Tongs – for removing the sausage rolls from the air fryer basket, Silicone tongs are super handy for air frying and don’t scratch the air fryer coating either!
  • Food thermometer – I totally recommend getting yourself a food thermometer, especially for air frying, it really gives me peace of mind when cooking. I like to know that food is cooked to the right temperature.

How To Cook Sausage Rolls In An Air Fryer

You’ll love how simple this air fryer snack is to make!

Step One – remove the sausage meat from the skins

  • Use a sharp knife to split the sausage skins all down the length of the sausage. Then flip the meat from the skins.
  • Mash the sausage meat up in a bowl using a fork.

Step Two – prepare the puff pastry sheet

  • Unwrap the pastry sheet, and slice it down the middle lengthways to make two long strips of pastry.

Step Three – make the homemade sausage rolls

  • Pile the sausage meat into a line along the middle of the pastry strips.
  • Fold the pastry over in a roll.
  • Use the fork to press the pastry together along the edge, this helps to stop the sausage rolls bursting open in the air fryer.
  • Slice each sausage roll into four pieces to make eight sausage rolls.
  • Brush the rolls with beaten egg so they colour up nicely as they cook. If you’re adding sprinkles on top add them now.

Step Three – cook the sausage rolls in the air fryer

  • Place two sausage rolls at a time into the air fryer basket (you maybe able to cook more depending on the size of the air fryer basket) We put two in each drawer and cook in two batches.
  • Cook on the ‘Bake’ setting on the Ninja at 180C for 15 minutes or until they’re cooked through properly.

Cooks Note! It’s best to use a food thermometer to check that the internal temperature of the sausage rolls is a minimum of 75C. If not, keep cooking until it reaches that temperature.

Step Four – serve the air fryer sausage rolls

  • Remove the sausage rolls from the air fryer using tongs so you don’t burn your hands. Then serve with your favourite chutney or side dishes.
