How To Clean Air Fryer - Quickly And Easily!
The air fryer is now the most used appliance in our kitchen! Here's how to clean air the fryer quickly and easily! Proper care and cleaning, all help to keep an air fryer working properly and lasting longer!
The popularity of air fryer has really boomed! I mean... is there anyone left who doesn't have one of these absolute cooking hacks sat on their kitchen worktop?!
We don't really think of the air fryer as an actual fryer but as a mini oven on the kitchen counter.
It heats up in literally seconds, it cooks food more quickly than a conventional oven and it's super easy to keep clean! And it literally only takes minutes to clean an air fryer!
So there's none of the hard slog of cleaning a traditional oven, and less hard work is something we could all do with a little of in our lives!
We use a Tefal Air Fryer at home.
How To Clean The Air Fryer
Okay.. as with everything, it's much easier to keep things clean if you clean them regularly!
How Often Should You Clean An Air Fryer
It's best if you clean your air fryer after every use. This just makes the job easier, and prevents any greasy build up from collecting inside the air fryer.
Equipment Needed To Clean The Air Fryer
- Washing Up Liquid - we usually use Ecover washing up liquid
- Toothbrush
- Sponge with textured surface
- Microfibre cloth
- Baking soda
- Clean dry soft cloth for drying/buffing
How To Clean The Air Fryer
Step by step instructions for how to clean the air fryer the easy way!
Step One - switch off the air fryer and allow to cool down
- Turn off the air fryer, un-plug it from the wall and leave it to cool down thoroughly before cleaning.
Step Two - clean the air fryer drawer and grill plate
- Remove the air fryer drawer and fill it with hot soapy water and leave it to soak for 5-10 minutes.
- Then pour the water out, and remove the detachable grill plate part - wash this using hot soapy water in a washing up bowl. Using the toothbrush gently scrub to get into and crevices and tight corners. Be careful not to damage the non-stick coating.
- Rinse the grill plate and leave to drain whilst you tackle the air fryer basket drawer.
- Then using a microfibre cloth, dipped in hot soapy water and rung out, wipe the inside of the air fryer basket clean. If you do this after every use, it will just wipe away easily with no effort needed.

Step Three - how to remove burnt on food and greasy patches
- Make a thick paste using baking soda and a drop of water - gently apply this to the burnt on food or grease and leave for a few minutes, then wipe away with hot soapy water and rinse well. Repeat if necessary.
Step Four - dry the air fryer basket and grill plate
- Dry the air fryer basket and grill plate thoroughly and put back together.
Step Five - how to clean the inside of the air fryer
- The inside of the air fryer gets splattered with grease and cooking residue in the same way as an oven, however, it's a whole lot quicker to clean, especially if you do it after each use!
- Dip a sponge into some hot soapy water and squeeze out - use this to first wipe over the heating coil element to remove any grease and burnt food.
- Be sure to rinse the sponge well and wipe over the heating element with clean water a few times to remove any soap residue.
- Next wipe around the inside of the air fryer unit, with a cloth and hot soapy water to remove any grease splatters.
- Wipe over it again with a cloth dipped in clean water to remove soap residue.
- Then dry with a soft dry cloth.
Step Six - how to clean the outside of the air fryer
- Run some fresh hot soapy water in a washing up bowl. Then dip the cloth in and ring it out well. Use this to wipe over the outside of the air fryer unit. Just to remove any grease marks, food of dust.
- Then dry and buff with a soft dry towel.
Air fryer cleaning is a whole lot easier when done regularly, preferably after each use!
