If you’re wondering can you cook sausages in the air fryer then yes! Yes you can! And they taste so good! It’s super simple to cook air fryer sausages, and it’s quicker than frying them or oven cooking. Plus a whole lot less faff.

For our air fryer sausage recipe we use a pack of chipolatas, but I’ve also listed cooking times and tips for other tips of sausages too.

How To Make Air Fryer Sausages

It is super easy to make Air Fryer Sausages – you’ll just need to adjust the cooking times depending on the size and thickness of the sausages you are cooking.

  1. Prick the sausages – this just helps the fat to be released from the sausages during cooking.
  2. Arrange the sausages in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  3. Switch the air fryer on to 180C and put the sausage in to cook for 15 minutes.
  4. Turn the bangers over every 5 minutes or so throughout the cooking time, just so they brown more evenly.
  5. Once the sausages are cooked through, with an inside core temperature of 75C, remove them from the air fryer basket and serve. You can check the temperature using a food thermometer.

What Kinds Of Sausages Can I Cook In The Air Fryer?

  • You can cook all types of sausages in the air fryer! From thick butchers pork sausages, to pigs in blankets, Cumberland whirl sausages, hotdogs, frozen sausages and vegetarian and chicken sausages.

Are Sausages Healthier Cooked In The Air Fryer?

  • In terms of cooking them in less fat, yes the air fryer is a healthier way to cook them than frying them in a pan with oil.

Can I Put Aluminium Foil In The Air Fryer?

  • Yes, and when cooking sausages it’s a good idea to line the bottom of the air fryer with foil then there’s less cleaning up of grease to do.

How Do I Know When Sausages Are Cooked?

  • The internal temperature in the middle of the sausage should be a minimum of 75C and the juices should run clear. It’s best to check this with a digital meat thermometer.

Air Fryer Sausage Cooking Times

We’ve popped the Average Cooking Times and temperatures for different types of Air Fryer Sausages below – always check sausages are cooked through properly and heated to a core temperature of 75C before eating.

  • Thick Pork Sausages – air fry at 180C for 20-25 minutes
  • Thin Sausages (like breakfast sausages) – air fry at 200C for 15 minutes
  • Cumberland Whirl – air fry at 180C for 20-25 minutes
  • Thin Beef Sausage – air fry at 190C for around 15-20 minutes (longer for larger and thicker sausages)
  • Pigs In Blankets – air frye at 200C for 10-15 minutes (for the mini ones, longer for larger/thicker)
  • Frozen sausages – air fry at 180C for 20-25 minutes
  • Vegetarian Sausages – air fry at 200C for around 8-10 minutes (longer for frozen ones)
  • Chicken Sausages and Turkey Sausage – air fry at 200C for around 10-15 minutes (longer for thicker ones)
  • Hot Dog Sausages (bratwurst) – air fry at 200C for around 5 minutes
  • Air Fryer Sausage Patties – these are usually quite thin and so only usually need air fryer at 200C for around 8-10 mins but check packet instructions.

How To Cook Sausages In Air Fryer

Cook Time: 15 minutes
Total Time: 17 minutes

The easy way to air fry sausages. And five tasty family meals to serve them in!

Ingredients

  • 12 chipolata sausages
  • pinch black pepper - optional

Instructions

  1. Prick the sausages using a fork. This just helps the fat to be released from the sausages during cooking.
  2. Arrange the sausages in the air fryer basket in a single layer.
  3. Switch the air fryer on to 180C and put the sausage in to cook for 15 minutes.
  4. Turn the sausages over every 5 minutes or so throughout the cooking time, just so they brown more evenly.
  5. Continue to cook sausages in air fryer until cooked through properly with no pink remaining and juices running clear.
  6. Once the sausages are cooked through, with an internal core temperature of 75C, remove them from the air fryer basket and serve.

Notes

If you are cooking sausges that are larger or thicker than chipolatas then adjust the cooking time to suit - they'll need to be cooked for longer.
