How To Deep Clean The Lounge

Unleash the power of our expert cleaning hacks for a flawlessly refreshed living room!

Get ready to revitalise your living space! But first, throw open those windows, let the fresh air flow, and crank up the tunes. Cleaning to music is always a great mood booster and motivator.

Fireplace And Hearth

  • If you have a chimney arrange to have this professionally cleaned prior to your deep cleaning.
  • Clean the fire surround and mantlepiece.

Ceiling features and lights

  • Dust cornice or ceiling features.
  • Take down light fittings, clean them and return them.
  • Dust ceiling fans.

Clean windows and window dressings

  • Take down and wash the curtains (as per laundry instructions if they’re machine-washable, otherwise have them dry cleaned). Once they’re clean and dry, re-hang them at the windows.
  • Vacuum and clean blinds and per the manufacturer instructions. Here’s how we clean Venetian blinds
  • Vacuum window vents, wash the windows and clean the windowsills and window frames. I like to clean windows using a bucket of warm soapy water with a cup of white vinegar swirled into it. I wash with a damp cloth, rinse, then buff dry with paper towel or dry white cloth.

Deep clean the lounge cupboards

  • Empty all the cupboards, sort through your belongings, get rid of items no longer wanted or needed.
  • Vacuum and clean the inside of the cupboards and return your belongings. Arrange them so that frequently used items are easy to access – maybe use storage boxes and baskets inside cupboards so that it’s easier to find things.

Declutter all surfaces – Deep Clean the Lounge

  • Declutter and clean all surfaces using microfibre cloth.
  • Once decluttered, wipe surfaces down and clean any ornaments or photos.

Areas to clean when you deep clean the lounge

  • Clean light switches and door handles.

  • Clean mirrors – use the natural window cleaner for this job. You can make this yourself and pour into a spray bottle.
  • Clean ornaments – any that can be washed in warm soapy water then do so.
  • Vacuum under and behind all furniture.
  • Vacuum sofa – underneath any cushions, down crevices – use the upholstery brush attachment on the vacuum cleaner to do down the edges to suck up any dirt or crumbs that have fallen down the couch cushions. Use specialist upholstery cleaning products to remove any spills or stain marks.
  • Wash/dry clean any throws or cushion covers – if switching to summer cushions and throws then store winter ones away neatly.
