Good Freezer Filler – this is a great recipe to double up on, freezing half for another day.

Equipment Needed

Chicken Keema Ingredients 

You’ll only need a handful of delicious ingredients to make this speedy curry for weeknight dinner

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion – diced
  • 500g chicken mince
  • 400g passata
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • Pinch salt

How To Make Chicken Keema

You’ll LOVE how quick and simple this chicken curry is to make, it’s so perfect for busy weeknights!

Step One – fry the onions

  • Add the olive oil to a saucepan over a medium heat – tip in the onions, add a pinch of salt, and fry them for 5 minutes.

Step Two – add the curry paste

  • Stir in the curry paste and fry for a couple of minutes.

Step Three – add the chicken mince

  • Tip in the chicken mince and fry for 5 minutes to brown the mince and mingle it into the curry paste flavors.

Step Four – add the rest of the ingredients and cook the chicken keema

  • Then add the passata and frozen peas – mix well.
  • Bring the pan to the boil and then reduce the heat and simmer with the lid off for around 15-20 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through and the curry sauce thickening.

Step Five – serve the chicken keema

  • Serve the tasty chicken keema with your favourite curry side dishes.

What To Serve With Chicken Keema

Our yummy chicken keema goes with all the traditional curry side dishes like boiled basmati rice, naan breads, chapati. And… it also goes great with chunky chips (try our air fryer chips here) or load it into a baked potato, or top with mashed potatoes and turn into a curry cottage pie.

You can take this easy chicken curry recipe and make swaps and changes as you like. We’ve popped some ideas below for you to try

Try different meat – you can make a keema curry with any minced meat – try turkey, lamb, pork or beef.

Add more vegetables – fancy some more veggies? Add in some bell peppers, baby potatoes, courgettes, okra or aubergine.

Go spicy – like your curry with a kick? Try super spicy vindaloo spices instead of jalfrezi.

Got some leftover keema? Here’s how to store, reheat and use it up!

How To Store Leftovers

Leftover chicken keema should be cooled quickly (within an hour of making) and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 24 hours.

Alternatively store in a suitable freezer-safe container in the freezer for up to 3 months. Defrost thoroughly before reheating.

How To Reheat Leftover Chicken Keema

To reheat leftover keema on the stovetop – put it into a pan, with the lid on and warm slowly until it’s boiling. Boil for a few minutes, stirring often to ensure even reheating. Check the reheated temperature is a minimum of 75C before eating

To reheat in the microwave – place into a suitable microwave safe container, cover with a reheating lid, heat on high for 2-3 minutes. Stir carefully, then continue to heat and stir until the temperature reaches a minimum of 75C.

Using Up Leftover Chicken Keema

  • Make Dirty Rice – stir the reheated leftover keema through cooked rice with a handful of peas and scatter over some flaked almonds.
  • Use the reheated chicken keema to top flatbreads and serve with Indian salad and Indian mint sauce.
