How To Make Bacon Bits

Homemade bacon bits are just so simple to make and these yummy bacon crumbles are just the perfect bacon'y topping to any of your favourite meals!

Sometimes you just need a little bacon'y crunch flavour boost. And these super easy homemade bacon sprinkles are the perfect thing!

They're delicious sprinkled on soups, pasta bakes, salads, even on top of mashed potatoes.

Best of all bacon bits are just super easy to make!

Equipment Needed

  • Frying pan
  • Scissors
  • Plate
  • Paper kitchen towel
  • Bowl

Bacon Bits Ingredients

You only need two ingredients to make your own crispy bacon bits!

  • 10 slices smoked streaky bacon - we usually use Jolly Hog Streaky Bacon
  • ½ tablespoon olive oil

How To Make Bacon Bits

You are just going to LOVE how simple it is to make our delicious bacon crumbles

Step One - fry the bacon

  • Put the frying pan over a hight heat. Add the olive oil and layer in the bacon. You will need to do this in two batches so as not to crowd the pan.
  • Cook the bacon until it is browning and crispy.

Step Two - cool the bacon

  • Put the cooked bacon onto a sheet of kitchen paper on a plate, to blot up any excess fat and to cool down.

Step Three - make the bacon bits

  • If you want chunky bacon bits then snip the bacon with kitchen scissors. Alternatively just crumble and break it up with you fingers to make bacon crumbles.

Be sure to use your bacon bits within 2 days of making them and store them in the fridge in an air tight container.

Take care to use them before the use-by date on the bacon packet also.
