With all the bugs around at this time of year it can’t harm to give the immune system a kick with our gorgeous green smoothie.
These are the smoothies I make for the kids when they’re a bit run down or they’ve been poorly with coughs and colds. It’s packed with good stuff that all helps towards keeping the immune system healthy.
Our healthy smoothie recipe is crammed with fresh spinach, kiwi, banana and live yogurt our super smoothie is not only delicious but it’s the only way yet I’ve ever got the kids to eat spinach!
This smoothie is bursting with superfood goodness.
With iron, calcium, magnesium, potassium, folate and vitamin A from the spinach.
A punch of vitamin A,C and E from the kiwi.
Vitamin B6 and C along with manganese, potassium and biotin from the banana.
And a healthy dose of good bacteria from the natural live yogurt.
How to make spinach smoothie for kids
Our spinach and kiwi smoothies are super quick to make – you will need a blender or smoothie maker for blitzing your fruit and vegetables.
Ingredients for spinach and kiwi smoothie
- 40g fresh baby spinach (about a handful)
- 2 kiwis (peeled and chopped)
- 1 banana (peeled and chopped)
- 200g natural yogurt
Instructions for making spinach smoothie for kids
- Firstly tip the sliced bananas and chopped kiwi pieces into the food processor or smoothie maker.
- Next – tip the fresh baby spinach leaves into the food processor with the banana and kiwi fruit.
- Add the natural yogurt to the food processor/blender along with the bananas, kiwi and fresh baby spinach leaves.
- Blitz the bananas, kiwi, spinach and natural yogurt until smooth.
When I make this smoothie it tends to serve two of the kids – I like them to drink homemade smoothies but obviously I know it’s better for them to eat the actual fruits whole not blitzed so I do keep portion sizes on the smaller side.
Spinach and Kiwi smoothie is a really good breakfast smoothie for kids, naturally sweet so it appeals to them and I feel good because it counts towards their 5-a-day.
What to give kids for breakfast with smoothies…
My kids tend to have this smoothie with either wholegrain toast with butter and marmite or a bowl of cereal – Shreddies or Readybrek are the most popular choices here.
Can I make the smoothie vegan or dairy free?
You can easily switch our smoothie recipe to be dairy free and suitable for vegans – just switch out the natural yogurt for a plant based yogurt.
Do I need to add honey or sugar to the smoothie?
It’s totally not necessary to add any honey or sugar, this smoothie has a natural delicious sweet taste, which even though it’s packed with spinach really appeals to kids.
- 40g Spinach
- 2 Kiwi
- 1 Banana
- 200g Natural Yogurt
- Peel and chop the kiwi and banana
- Add the kiwi, banana, spinach and yogurt to a blender or food processor
- Blitz until smooth
