This week Meet the Producers heads over to beautiful Norfolk to catch up with Shauna Tate from Foxglove Kitchen.
Foxglove Kitchen is a relatively new business producing the most amazingly delicious brownies. Beautiful, mouthwateringly decadent brownies.
Shauna started up Foxglove Kitchen during the summer when Thetford Garden Centre who had met Shauna through the Beaters Hut Bakers Club which she runs asked her to start supplying their cafe. Her first reaction was no-way but after a few days gourmet brownies whirled through her every thought and she decided to apply to have her kitchen inspected, filled in the paper work, came up with her company name and set up in business. Brownies are something Shauna has made well for years and she thought it was about time she put her delicious home baked brownies out there.
Shauna makes all her brownies by hand in her home kitchen on the Shadwell Estate. Not surprisingly her most popular flavours are Salted Peanut & Caramel, Traditional Gold and Oreo. The secret brownie recipe is one Shauna has adapted and developed over many years. Keen that people suffering intolerances shouldn’t miss out, Shauna is also extremely proud to have made a gluten and dairy free brownie that is still a proper brownie!
For the festive season Foxglove Kitchen has developed a rather amazing Christmas Pudding Brownie which is completely divine – inspired by Nigella Lawson’s Puddini’s.
Shauna likes to support other small businesses in the area Foxglove Kitchen sources all the eggs from a free range farm just 3 miles down the road – this gorgeous farm is set in woodland and one Shauna used to visit as a child with her family and now once a week she goes with her own children to collect her trays of eggs.
Shauna really thinks it’s important people do buy from the little companies like hers – not only does it contribute to celebrating local craft and skilled workmanship and individuality – it’s also an ethically sound way to shop that helps to reduce the carbon footprint and keeps local economy buoyant.
The future of Foxglove Kitchen is looking good – Shauna adores her baking time, every order to leave her kitchen puts her on tenterhooks whilst she awaits the feedback – it’s her fuel! Shauna thrives on the work/life balance as mother of two young children – small but delicious is how her business shall remain for the next few years.
