As a mum I know that Mother’s Day is that one time of year when it’s nice to feel special, to know that your kids tried to do something nice for you. It’s not about spending big money, it’s about the little things, the sentiment, the nice thoughts and putting in just a little bit of effort.
We’ve been inspired by Tesco’s Mother’s Day present ideas to come up with a few lovely ways to celebrate Mother’s Day.
Breakfast in bed
Okay… Dad’s you’re going to have to get up and help out with this one. Put together a lovely tray of delicious breakfast items. Pick out a nice new tray, maybe a lovely new cup and saucer and load that tray up with your mum’s favourite breakfast items. Pop on a small bouquet of jam jar flowers, maybe a copy of her favourite magazine.
– go continental with a little freshly warmed croissant, a slice or two or parma ham, mini mozzarella balls, sliced fresh figs or baby plum tomatoes, add a fresh fruit salad with juicy berries and melon. Pop a coffee on the side – Bellissimo!
– go English with freshly made buttery toast, a delicious pot of marmalade or honey, a pot of English breakfast tea, maybe a dish of granola, fresh berries and yogurt.
– go with bacon – soft white bread, crispy bacon, brown sauce, add a mug of tea.
Luxurious bath time
If there’s one thing a mum never gets it’s a long soak in a bubble bath in peace with a cup of tea, book and candles. Just for one day… clear the Barbies, Ninja Turtles, army of Lego men out of the bathroom. Make up a little basket or box of bath time treats. Add in bubble bath, lovely body cream, maybe a new book, a box of chocolates…
Dad’s get cleaning the bathroom, pop in the fluffy warmed towels, run a deep bath, light some scented candles, take up a lovely cup of tea and let mum enjoy 5 minutes peace!
Happy photo collection
Gather together a handful of brilliant happy photos of you and your mum and arrange them in a lovely new frame. Perfect little Mother’s Day gift.
Head on over to Tesco and check out their Mother’s Day gift ranges and inspiration, they’ve everything you need to put together any of our lovely Mother’s Day gift ideas.
PS… Note to my kids if you’re reading this, make my Mother’s Day by rocking up with that continental breakfast in bed around 9am, copy of Living Etc magazine, extra coffee brought on demand, probably a big cake (I like homemade best) and five minutes peace in which to eat it… and if you could run the vacuum over, clean the school shoes, do the ironing, not fight, not dress the dog up, remember to take your muddy shoes off, maybe make a roast dinner that’d be great…
And remember I love you just the way you are!
