Creating the ideal work space is super important – you’re going to be spending a whole lot of your time there so it’s got to feel right. My ideal work space has to give me everything I need to be able to do my job, be comfortable and just feel a happy space to be in. The key components to think about for me are…
I like a communal, friendly vibe to a work space – huge tables that can be shared, so that I can bounce ideas of co-workers.
I also like a really comfy seating area – the type of place I can kick off my shoes and curl up, big squashy sofas and giant bean bags work for me. Just because I’m working doesn’t mean I shouldn’t be comfortable.
I am however mindful of spending too much time sat down and I like a row of standing desks, preferably with a view out of the window – so I can stand, walk around and move as I work whilst getting my steps in and closing my Apple Watch activity rings.
Colour, Light & Space
I like my work space in pale colours – white or pale shades of grey but with bright and zingy pops of colour coming from the furniture or accessories. I like plenty of natural light streaming through the windows and access to fresh air – I think these really lift my mood and creativity.
I love accessories – I don’t want my work space cluttered, but I do like to be surrounded by nice things. There has to be well tended healthy luscious plants. There has to be great lights – both focused work lights and lamps and a few great floor lights, and I do really like to feature strings of gorgeous fairy lights just to add a little quirky dimension to a space.
In terms of wall space – a few great pieces of art, something modern, bright and fresh looking and definitely no work related items up on display – I like work to be entirely digital and not cluttering up my work space by staring me in the face.
Food & Drink
This is key for me! I like a little area where I can make proper coffee or brew a proper cup of tea. I like a fridge to store food in, I like a microwave for reheating something tasty, I need a toaster, because some mornings it just has to be toasted tea cakes at my desk!
