A month of feel good, comforting family dinners. It’s October and we’re eating…
1st – Lancashire hotpot
Tuck in to a plate full of traditional Lancashire hotpot. This easy slow cooker version is a tasty, warming family dinner. Just add pickled red cabbage and buttered crusty bread.
2nd – Fish & chips

3rd – Pizza night

4th – Slow cooker brisket
Make this Sunday dinner a lazy event and let the slow cooker do the hard work. Our slow cooker brisket in a rich gravy will soon become a favourite. Don’t forget to save some beef for tomorrows dinner.
5th – Beef rolls & soup
Butter soft bread rolls and fill with leftover beef and mustard. Serve with a rich tomato or vegetable soup, you could make your own, we love this ‘bottom of the fridge soup’ which is great for using up leftovers. Or if you’re short on time, cheat and buy ready made.
6th – Chicken & sausage casserole
Cook up a delicious chicken and sausage casserole, packed with fresh vegetables it’ll make a filling family dinner for a cold night. Just serve with crusty bread for mopping up the juices.
7th – Vegetable chilli
For a quick and easy vegetable chilli recipe you can’t beat the River Cottage pinto bean chilli. Packed with seasonal vegetables. Serve with guacamole and a dollop of soured cream. Make a little extra and load it into the baked potatoes for tomorrows dinner.
8th – Loaded baked potatoes

9th – Fish cakes
Whip up a batch of homemade fish cakes or cheat and buy ready made. Serve with lots of vegetables and some spicy dip.
10th – Posh sausage rolls
Scrumptious homemade sausage rolls. Puff pastry wrapped around a delicious sausage, cheese and chutney filling. Serve with a side of apple slaw for added yum. Be sure to make lots of coleslaw and use the leftovers for tomorrows dinner.

Serve up ham rolls with a mug of pea soup for dipping. Make your own pea soup or buy a carton, whichever you prefer.
13th – Egg & chips
Throw together a healthy tray of oven baked egg and chips. Serve with grilled tomatoes.

Serve up this warming family favourite. Shepherd’s pie is delicious with pickled beetroot.
15th – Thai red curry
Use seasonal squash and sweet potato and cook up a quick and easy Thai prawn curry. We love this Thai curry recipe from Nigella.
16th – Tray bake fish
Quick and easy oven baked fish. Just use whatever fish you like. It’s tasty, healthy and low fuss.

Nothing says family dinner quite like a roast chicken on a Sunday. Load the plates with roast chicken, chipolatas, roast potatoes, parsnips and greens. If you’re no good at roasting chickens, then buy the roast in the bag ones for ease. Save a little chicken for tomorrow nights dinner.
19th – Fajita topped baked potatoes
Top oven baked potatoes with leftover shredded roast chicken, salsa, grated cheese and serve with guacamole for a lovely fajita topped baked potato feast.
20th – Easy cheese & onion pie
Cheat and buy ready made puff pastry, fill it with your favourite cheese, onions and potatoes. Serve the cheese & onion pie with a pot of BBQ beans for a really easy filling family dinner.
21st – Vegetable stir fry
Quick and easy vegetable stir fry tonight. Buy the ready chopped stir fry bags and microwave rice for an easy family dinner.
22nd – Pesto chicken bake
Lay chicken breasts in an oven proof dish, top with loads of pesto, slices of tomatoes and handfuls of grated cheese. Bake and serve with chips.
23rd – Ultimate fish finger sandwich
Kids will love this fish finger sandwich, and you’ll love squeezing in the extra veggies to up their fruit & veg intake.

26th – Loaded baked potatoes
Choose your favourite topping, load up your baked potato and enjoy.
27th – Sweet & sour chicken
Easy sweet and sour chicken this evening. Ready in just 20 minutes. Serve with peas and corn a great weeknight dinner.
28th – Squash with gnocchi
Roast some seasonal squash with lots of garlic, black pepper and onions. Toss in freshly cooked gnocchi and sprinkle with blue cheese.
29th – Slow cooker bolognese
An easy slow cooker bolognese recipe that’s packed with vegetables. Serve tossed though freshly cooked spaghetti with a side of peas and corn.
30th – Minestrone soup and dumplings
Make up a huge pan of minestrone soup and dumplings. Perfect for coming home to after a long hard day. Serve topped with grated Parmesan cheese.
