How To Make Pancakes From Scratch
You'll really love how simple this pancake recipe is to make, it's faff free, and easy!
Step One - mix up the pancake batter
- Add the flour to a mixing bowl, and make a well in the middle by pushing the flour up the sides of the bowl out of the way.
- Break the egg into the well, and pour in about a quarter of the milk.
- Stir the egg and milk together in small circles, taking in a little bit of flour from the edges, with each circle, so that it combines slowly. Then it won't clump up and form lumps.

- Keep mixing and adding a little more milk at a time, until the batter is all mixed and is the same consistency as double cream.

Step Two - cook the pancakes - it's best to use a non-stick pan
- Put a small frying pan over a medium heat on the hob and let the pan warm for a couple of minutes.
- Add half a teaspoon of butter and swirl it around the pan.
- Then ladle in half a ladle of pancake patter and swirl the pan so that it covers the base fully.

- Cook the pancake for a few minutes until the batter sets, then loosen the edges and lift up one side to check if it has brown lacy patterns where it's been cooking. If so it's time to toss the pancake!
- Flip the pancake over - you can either do this by flipping it straight from the pan, or use a fish slice to turn it over in the pan.
- Continue to cook the other side for a couple of minutes until cooked through. Then slide onto a plate and serve with sugar and lemon, or all your favourite toppings.
