Sleeping Beauty Pantomime Review
This is the first panto we’ve been to that’s not been in the bigger venue of the Palace Theatre or the Opera House Manchester so I was unsure of how it would compare and we were totally impressed!
The smaller venue made the whole panto feel like a more personal intimate performance with all the audience really getting involved in the show. The whole cast gave a brilliant performance, well rehearsed, well presented and totally professional – they had the audience literally rolling with laughter.
The jokes and comedy one liners were well understood by the kids as well as adults and everyone had a really good time. The singing was great – we loved that they used modern pop music and gave it a “Sleeping Beauty” twist to make it relevant to the performance.
The pantomime dame or “Queenie Jeanie” played by Richard Aucott was a total joy to watch – his comedy style and presence had the audience laughing the whole time. He was a brilliant pantomime dame!
The kids just LOVED Chester the Jester mainly because he did a huge fart every time he came on stage… oh and the water guns… got to love the water guns and getting an unexpected shower of water had the kids squealing with laughter.
Aurora, Fairy Fabulous and the Handsome Prince all played great roles and belted out some great songs. But we loved the wicked Carabosse played by Stephen Sullivan best of all – prancing bout in those heels for 2 hours was impressive!
And… we kinda LOVED doing the Time Warp and ‘OH YES WE DID DO IT BETTER THAN YOU”
All in all a brilliant way to spend an afternoon with the kids – especially as it’s school holiday and there’s a whole lot of days to fill! A little panto magic is definitely a good thing!
