Making Hot Dog Mummy’s Is A Good Thing, Here’s Why!

Spooky Treat – this spookalicious recipe is great for a quick Halloween dinner or snack for the kids, good for parties and fuelling up your trick-or-treaters before they head out.

Super Easy – mommy hot dogs are just the easiest thing to make, great for getting kids busy in the kitchen helping out. You could also make mini mummy dogs with mini pork sausages.

Inexpensive – this is a low cost recipe, which is great because shop-bought Halloween treats can start to get expensive, especially if you’re catering for a party and need some appetizer ideas.

Equipment Needed

  • Air fryer – we use a  Ninja Foodi Max Dual Zone Air Fryer – the 9.5 litre two drawer cooking space is BRILLIANT when you’re cooking for a family. And it makes cooking meat, chicken or fish and potatoes at the same time super easy!
  • Tongs – I’d definitely recommend you get yourself a set of silicone tongs if you do lots of air frying. They just make it so much easier to remove or flip food. Plus they don’t scratch the air fryer non-stick coating.
  • Food thermometer – I totally recommend getting yourself a food thermometer, especially for air frying, it really gives me peace of mind when cooking. I like to know that food is cooked to the right temperature.
  • Tablespoon
  • Knife – for cutting the pastry.

How To Make Hot Dog Mummys

You are going to LOVE how quick and easy these hot dog mummy’s are to make!

Step One – make the hot dog mummy’s

  • Firstly cut the pastry sheet into thin strips.
  • Then wrap strips of pastry around the hot dog sausages – make sure both ends are on the same side (so you can place it seam side down so it doesn’t unravel when you cook)
  • Brush the pastry with beaten egg.

Step Two – air fry the hot dog mummy’s

  • Place the hot dog mummys into the air fryer basket. In a single layer – depending on how big your air fryer is you may have to cook in batches.
  • Air fry at 200C for around 10-12 minutes or until the hot dog is heated properly throughout and the pastry cooked and puffed, and turning golden brown.

Step Three – add the eyes

  • Add the mummy eyes – we use a blob of ketchup with a caper stuck on top, but we’ve popped more eyeball ideas below, including candy eyes.

Step Four – serve the air fryer hot dog mummy’s

  • Arrange your hot dog mummy’s on platters and serve just as they are or add some dips. Chunky guacamole, ketchup, mustard and BBQ sauce work well as dipping sauce.

Make Mummy Hot Dogs In The Oven

If you’ve no air fryer, or want to make big batches of mummy hot dogs, then use the oven.

Just make all the hot dog mummy’s and lay them seam down on to a baking sheet.

Then bake in the oven until the pastry is cooked through and puffed up and the hot dog sausages are heated through properly.
