Sausage Pasta

When it comes to comfort food you just can't go wrong with a bowl of our delicious homemade sausage pasta!

Our sausage pasta recipe is always a hit for dinner and guarantees empty plates!

When it comes to making sausage pasta you can go basic, like in our yummy BBQ hot dog pasta recipe or you can go all out authentic Italian and cook up a total sausage dish feast!

The key to making a great Italian style sausage pasta recipe is to pick great sausages, well seasoned with a hight meat content.

And to remove the skins, the sausage meat cooks into the sauce so much more deliciously that way.

And when it comes to tomatoes, choose a can of polpa tomatoes, these are finely chopped, almost like a half-way between passata and chopped tomatoes. They give the sauce a rich, sweet tomato flavour but without any excess liquid.

These are great to have in the store cupboard, they're fantastic in any sauce that calls for canned tomatoes.

And if you need to make a quick store cupboard recipe for dinner, you really only need to add seasoning and some fresh basil and you've got yourself a simple pasta sauce.

sausage pasta ingredients on a table - orchhiette pasta, diced red onion, diced red pepper, frozen spinach, chopped garlic, dried herbs, sausages and olive oil
  • 350g orecchiette pasta - feel free to use a different pasta shape.
  • 6 pork sausages - choose ones with a high meat content, and Italian flavours if you can find them
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 red onion - diced
  • 1 red pepper - diced
  • 2 cloves garlic - chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds - crushed using a pestle and mortar
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 400g can chopped tomatoes - we use the Polpa tomatoes
  • 1 cup frozen spinach

Cooks Note! This organic chopped spinach from Pack'd is such a find! It's really well chopped and loose leaf, not frozen in big clumps, so it's great for adding to pasta sauce or curry. And you can even blend this one from frozen in smoothies which my kids are loving!
