Boosting my happiness and sense of wellbeing by focusing on some gorgeous self care activities this May
WHAT IS SELF CARE?
Simply looking after yourself – putting time and effort into choosing to do activities that make you feel good and promote happiness and wellbeing. It feels good to feel good! I think it’s really important to focus on your own wellbeing and needs.
WHAT ARE SELF CARE ACTIVITIES?
They can literally be anything that makes you feel good – as simple as spending 5 minutes meditating or 10 minutes sat with your feet up and a cup of tea.
Maybe taking a 10 minute walk each day or even just making a to-do list or organising your day so it runs more smoothly – anything that promotes good feelings and wellbeing.

We LOVE our feel good monthly challenges – it just takes a little focus and effort each day to make sure I always squeeze in something that’s nice, makes me happy or is just good for my wellbeing.
MY SELF CARE IDEAS FOR MAY
Remember – you don’t have to do them all, just do what feels good for you. This is a nice thing to do – it shouldn’t cause you any stress or pressure.
1 – Spring flowers
Get yourself some bunches of lovely spring flowers – Daffodils or Tulips mingled in with little bits and pieces from the garden look just gorgeous in vases around the house – or even just crammed into jam jars.
Jam jar flowers are my favourite kind.
2 – Spring baking
Take time in the kitchen and make a delicious spring bake like our delicious lemon and poppy seed scones, served with lemon curd and clotted cream. Just perfect!
3 – Air the house
Fill the house with fresh air – nothing lifts the vibe at home better than airing the house, it changes the feel and adds freshness.
Get the windows wide open and air every room.
4 – Spring cleaning
Spring is a great time to really sort out your home, go through the house, declutter, reorganise and really clean the house.

5 – Go for a walk in the rain
Get your wellies and rain coat and head out into the rain with the kids and puddle splash. It feels good!
6 – Plant a herb garden
Plant up a kitchen herb garden – you can do this even in a tiny garden or balcony space – you’ll just need a few plant pots or window boxes and plant up your favourite culinary herbs.
Good herbs to plant are rosemary, chives, mint, oregano, thyme and basil.
7 – Watch the sunrise
Get up really early, grab yourself a coffee and head out to the garden or balcony and watch the sunrise – it feels good for the soul.
8 – Go for a picnic
Picnic’s are a gorgeous thing – nice food eaten outdoors – make it special and really take your time to enjoy the afternoon.
9 – Breakfast in bed
Treat yourself to breakfast in bed – try croissants, fresh berries with thick creamy yogurt and a coffee, load that tray up and take it back up to bed.
10 – Tech free day
Switch off the tech, put down your phone, turn off social media and have a tech-distraction free day. See how you feel at the end of it – Did you miss it? Did you enjoy it?
Maybe it’ll kick start a reset of how you use technology in future. Or maybe you’ll miss it and be glad to get back online feeling refreshed!
11 – Infused shower
Tie a bunch of your favourite herb sprigs and lavender blooms together and hook over the shower head, let the water run over them and the steam infuse your shower with herby lavender scent.
12 – Line dried bedding
Pick a windy day – strip the beds and wash the bedding and dry it outdoors on the washing line.
Nothing beats slipping into the fresh line dried bedding at night – it’s one of the nicest things!
13 – S’mores and hot chocolate
Light the wood burner and make s’mores and treat the kids to FABULOUS hot chocolates with marshmallows and sparklers.
We just LOVE this salted caramel hot chocolate recipe… total luxury.
14 – Dance
This is one I like to squeeze in everyday! Get the music on and just dance like nobody is watching – even if I only manage to fit in 5-10 minutes, it boosts my mood and makes me feel good!
15 – Give something back
Paying back kindness is something that makes me feel good – if someone helps me out then I like to repay that – to them or to the universe in general. Just pass on the kindness.
16 – Afternoon nap
If I get the chance, then it feels just delightful to take an afternoon nap, to lie on the bed, maybe read for a while and just drift off to sleep listening to the world go by.
17 – Make a magical outdoor space
Get out into the garden and find a great space – add a little bistro table, bunting, fairy lights, lanterns, pots of flowers anything that makes it feel amazing.
Treat yourself to an afternoon or evening in your new space with cups of tea, hot chocolates or glasses of wine, whatever suits you.
18 – Relaxing bath
Fill the bath with deliciously warm water, pour in your favourite bath oils or bubbles, then enjoy a long soak. Maybe treat yourself to a glass of wine or cup of tea – light some candles, read a magazine or book, listen to some soothing music. Just do what feels good.
19 – Cook up a spring dinner
Cook up a delicious spring dinner, maybe a simple spring vegetable risotto, herby omelette or griddle some tasty seasonal asparagus and dip into boiled eggs.
20 – Date night
Even if you can’t go out right now you can still put time into creating a little date night for you and your significant other – make the space nice either in the garden or kitchen.
String up fairy lights, light candles or lanterns, cook something nice and just spend a couple of hours together.
If you have kids at home – just do them and early tea and film night in bed so you get time alone.
And if cooking isn’t your thing… graze boards are super easy to throw together.
