Add-Ins And Substitutions

You really don't need to add in too much extra, this recipe is totally delicious as is.

You could add in some buttery scrambled eggs, sliced avocado or some juicy tomatoes. Maybe sprinkle on a few black sesame seeds.

You can switch the herbs, the bagels are also nice served scattered with fresh dill or parsley in place of the chives. Or you could use a herb cream cheese for some extra flavors.

Feel free to switch the sesame seed bagels too - this is nice made with plain bagels or poppy seed bagels as an alternate.

Recipe Tips And FAQs

How can I avoid making my smoked salmon and cream cheese bagel soggy/mushy?

Let the toasted bagels cool - be sure to let the bagels cool before spreading on the cream cheese otherwise it will melt into the hot bagel and not sit on top in a thick creamy layer.

Serving Suggestions

What are some good pairings for smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels?

Keep things simple, fresh and light. Try adding side dishes like fruit platters or a zesty fruit salad made from grapefruit and juicy oranges, sprinkled with a little sea salt.

You could also try adding a side dish of creamy Greek yogurt topped with fruit compote, nuts and seeds.

Need brunch on the go? Try serving these as salmon bagel sandwiches - just sandwich together, wrap in parchment paper and eat on the commute.
