You’ll quickly fall in love with this delicious oven baked Spicy French Fries recipe.

The oven baked spicy fries are super quick to make, because we cheat! Just a few little cheat ingredients mean that these seriously mouthwateringly good spicy fries will be on your plate in about 18 minutes.

Our spicy chips are perfect for dunking in that homemade spicy mayonnaise dip, and again, you can have this ready in minutes too. You’ve got to just love fast snacks!

Do you season fries before or after baking?

I add the dried seasonings before baking so that they mix with the oil on the fries and coat them deliciously as they bake.

The herbs and any fresh ingredients like chopped chillies I add after baking.

Homemade Spicy Fries Ingredients

  • 500g Frozen French Fries – I use McCain French Fries for this recipe – now McCains do a quick cook pack that just take 5 minutes to cook, so if you wanted these even faster then you could use those.
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp mild chilli powder – or swap this for a pinch of chilli flakes
  • small bunch of coriander – roughly chopped
  • small bunch of flat leaf parsley – roughly chopped

Feel free to switch around the spice quantity, these are your fries make them as spicy as you like.

How to make spicy fries

  • Heat the oven to 230C
  • Spread the fries in a single layer on a large baking tray.
  • Sprinkle over the cumin, paprika and chilli powder and a pinch of sea salt – toss the fries with your fingers to coat everything – then spread them back in a single layer.
  • Cook in the oven for 14-16 minutes or until they’re golden and cooked deliciously.
  • Remove from the oven and sprinkle over the coriander and flat leaf parsley.

How to make French Fries crispy?

The best way to make sure your oven baked French fries are crispy is to make sure the oven is hot enough and be sure to only cook the fries in a single layer – don’t overlap the chips.

Make some spicy mayonnaise for dipping

A simple delicious dip recipe with harissa and mayonnaise, easy party dip recipe, spicy dip recipe

Whilst the spicy fries cook you can mix up a pot of spicy mayonnaise for dipping them into – grab our delicious spicy mayonnaise recipe here.

Make Spicy Fries your way

  • Want them spicier? Throw over a pinch of red pepper flakes or add finely chopped chillies once they’re cooked.
  • Go for a Chinese flavour – scatter the fries with five-spice powder a pinch of Szechuan pepper and finely chopped spring onions.
  • Fancy something a bit Italian? Scatter the fries with a pinch of oregano, a pinch of ground fennel seeds and zest of a lemon.
  • To make vegan spicy chips just be sure to use vegan friendly ingredients and swap the mayo dip for a delicious plant based mayonnaise.

You can mix up any kind of spicy fries seasoning you like – you can go with a Chinese vibe with szechuan pepper, a Mexican vibe with smoked paprika and oregano or even an Italian vibe with fennel seeds, oregano and basil.

Try out different seasoning blends and see which you like best.

And if you really can’t be bothered with that – then buy the ready mixed seasoning herb and spice pots – my favourites are Moroccan, Mexican, Cajun and Italian. They all taste delicious tossed onto fries and baked.
