Easy Summer Sausage Recipe
Our sticky BBQ sausages are a total crowd pleaser! Perfect for serving up when you need to feed a crowd and want a dinner recipe that’s easy, low fuss and that tastes good!
This is a super easy recipe and one that kids just LOVE. I usually throw together a tray of these delicious sticky BBQ sausages if the kids have got friends over for dinner.
I do tend to make them the easy way with lots of cheats and time-savers. But if I want dinner to be more special and I have the time then I will make the coleslaw and salsa from scratch. As always with our recipes just do what suits you.

The sticky BBQ sausages are simply oven baked adding a squeeze of BBQ sauce for the last 10 minutes of cooking.
I bake them in the oven rather than on the barbecue because then I can just throw them in and go off and do something else, I don’t need to stand watching them as they cook.
The sweet sticky sausages are delicious served in the crusty mini French baguettes with coleslaw and salsa. And I do add a few tasty side dishes like corn cobs and fries, just because it all taste so damn good together!
Sticky BBQ Sausage Ingredients
- 8 Sausages – choose a good quality sausage, one with a high meat content. You could add extra flavour to this dish by using flavoured sausages like a smoky paprika or chilli flavoured sausage.
- 250g BBQ sauce – I use Sweet Baby Ray’s Honey BBQ sauce in my recipe, it’s just got that delicious, sweet and smoky authentic taste.
- 8 mini French baguettes – I use the part-baked petits pains you can pick up in most supermarkets – they usually just take around 8-10 minutes in the oven and the freshly baked bread just makes this easy sausage dinner extra delicious.
- 300g Coleslaw – you can either use a carton of shop bought coleslaw or have a go at making your own homemade coleslaw

- 250g Salsa – again either use a jar of shop bought salsa or maybe try making your own homemade salsa

How to make our summer sausage recipe

- After 20 minutes remove the sausages from the oven and add a big squirt of BBQ sauce to them, toss them around to coat them nicely then put back into the oven and continue to cook for around 10 minutes – until they’re cooked through and lovely and sticky on the outside.

Can you cook BBQ sausages in the oven?
Yes! You totally can make these sausages in the oven – in fact I kinda think it’s a lot easier than the faff of a BBQ.
How long do you cook sausages in the oven?
First up, if you want a good oven cooked banger then read the cooking instructions – different types and thicknesses of sausages take different lengths of time to cook.
Also take note of the different temperature settings for fan ovens – especially if you don’t want the sausages to dry out and be tough.
Thicker sausages tend to take around 25-30 minutes to cook and thinner ones around 5-7 minutes less.
How do you tell if a sausage is cooked?
Sausages must always be cooked properly. Never under-cook sausages. The sausage meat should be a pale brown colour inside with no pink meat or bloody juices.
I find the easiest way to cook them is to check the internal cooking temperature has reached a minimum of 75C for 2 minutes – then I cut into the sausage to check for any pink meat or bloody juices.
If any remain I put them back into the oven and then check again if they’re cooked in 5 minutes or so.
