Strawberry Crumble Ingredients

You’ll only need a handful of simple ingredients to make this delicious strawberry dessert recipe.

For the strawberry filling

  • 2 tbsp brown sugar – to sprinkle onto the fresh strawberries
strawberry crumble ingredients - fresh strawberries, brown sugar, plain flour, butter all on a. white table

For the crumble topping

  • 200g plain flour (or all purpose flour)
  • 100g unsalted butter – at room temperature
  • 50g brown sugar – you can swap this for granulated sugar if you prefer. I just like the richness and toffee flavor of the brown sugar.
  • Pinch of salt (optional)

Equipment Needed To Make This Strawberry Dessert Recipe

  • Colander
  • Chopping board
  • Sharp knife
  • Tablespoon
  • Weighing scales
  • Mixing bowl
  • Oven proof baking dish

How To Make Strawberry Crumble

Step One – preheat the oven

Step Two – prepare the fresh strawberries

  • Wash and hull the strawberries – then slice into quarters.

Cooks Tip! To hull strawberries just run the knife around the little leafy part at the top and remove them and the little centre bit underneath the leaves. That’s it. And if like me you find that too much of a faff then just slice off the tops – job done!

Step Three – make the jammy crumble filling

  • Tip the strawberry quarters into the oven proof dish – and then scatter over the 2 tbsp of brown sugar.
  • Stir the brown sugar into the strawberries

Step Four – make the crumble topping

  • Make up the crumble topping – add the flour and butter to a mixing bowl.

Step Six – bake the strawberry crumble in the oven

  • Bake in the oven for 30-40 minutes – or until the filling is sticky and jammy and the crumble topping a lovely golden brown colour.
  • Remove from the oven – then allow to cool for 5-10 minutes before serving

What To Serve With Strawberry Crumble

Well… because I usually make strawberry crumble in the summer I tend to serve it with delicious creamy vanilla ice-cream.

Sometimes I serve it with a couple of heaped teaspoons of clotted cream or cold custard – we LOVE Jude’s Madagascan Vanilla Custard straight from the fridge it’s LUSH drizzled all over our strawberry dessert.

Make Our Strawberry Crumble Recipe Your Way!

  • Crunchy Topping – add a little crunch to the crumble topping – mix in some oats, ground almonds or almond slivers with your crumble mixture and scatter over before baking.
  • Add More Fruit – fancy some more fruit in with your strawberries? Then you could add apples, blackberries, rhubarb or blueberries – they all taste fabulous baked together in a sticky crumble filling.
  • Make Gluten Free Crumble – I make a little crumble alongside my big crumble for my gluten-free child. I just swap the plain flour for gluten free plain flour and it tastes just as good! You could also make this with almond flour.
  • Make It Vegan – you can turn this into a plant based dessert recipe by using vegan butter in place of regular.

How To Store Leftover Strawberry Crumble

If you’ve any leftovers, then be sure to let it cool and then store in an airtight container in the refrigerator.

It’s delicious eaten cold next day and is one of my favourite summery breakfasts, topped with a little Greek yogurt and eaten whilst sipping a lovely flat white coffee, preferable in a puddle of early morning sunshine in the garden.
