After ‘cough’ almost 40 years of living, opening the wardrobe and wondering what on earth I was thinking when I bought my clothes, getting dressed in a style the kids describe as ‘mad boho gypsy who fell into the charity shop’ I finally decided to get a grip and overhaul my style….
For as long as I can remember I’ve lusted after a simple, neutral, stylish capsule wardrobe… a feeling which is bizarrely overridden when I get into a clothes shop and just buy the entire opposite, I just don’t think I’m a natural fashion person. At all.
So. I’ve scoured Pinterest for ideas, I’ve thought about what I actually want to wear, where I’m going in it and how I want it to make me feel. And I’ve written a list of what I think I need, to make up a neutral, timeless, summery capsule wardrobe. And one I hope I can build on to turn it into an autumn and winter wardrobe too.
Here’s the list.
Capsule Wardrobe – bottoms/dresses
- Pale blue jeans
- Mid blue jeans
- Dark blue jeans
- Neutral linen trousers
- Navy blue dress
- Neutral dress
- Navy blue trousers
Capsule Wardrobe – tops
- Grey t-shirt x 2 different styles
- Bretton top
- Soft pale denim shirt
- White shirt
- White vest top x 2
- White t-shirt
- Blue t-shirt
I think Gap is going to be my go to shop for neutrals.
Capsule Wardrobe – jackets/warm layers
- Denim jacket
Capsule Wardrobe – accessories
- Sun glasses
- Wedge sandals – brown
- Wedge sandals – blue
- Ballet flats (I’ve got my eye on cute little Butterfly Twists)
- Neutral trainers
- Light weight scarves x 3 (ooo FatFace I want all of these)
Capsule Wardrobe – extras
- an actual jogging outfit… (because in my ideal world of capsule wardrobes, my life will have time to jog, scheduled smugly and healthily in there somewhere, probably looking as fabulous as one of the Fabletics models….)
I kinda think I’m at that bit in my life where I’d like to simplify things, make things easier on myself and remove anything that wastes my time and makes me cross… It’s actually quite a liberating bit in life to get to, wish I’d arrived there sooner if I’m honest!
So, this is my capsule wardrobe blue print, from now on when I buy new clothes, they’ll come off this list and bit by bit, my crazy wardrobe will be gone and mornings will just be opening the cupboard and just being able to get dressed, instead of stood wondering about where my mind was at when I bought all of the things in there! And who knows… maybe one day I’ll reach the dizzy heights of co-ordinated underwear too!
