Taco Bowl With Spicy Beef

Serve up our easy taco bowl recipe for weeknight dinner. It’s easy to make, easy to prep ahead and is a total riot of colours and flavours. Plus all those veggies count towards your 5-a-day!

For me, any dinner that I can prep-ahead of time so that all I need to do is pull things out of the fridge and warm them up is a good thing! Beef tacos are a super easy minced beef recipe.

I love dinners like this, where most of the hard work is done and it’s just a case of letting everyone build their own taco bowl and tuck in.

You can add anything you like to taco bowls, just throw in all your favourites.

I’ve given you lots of different taco topping ideas below and ways to switch up the protein to create whole different meals options.

Taco Bowl Ingredients

To make our spicy beef taco bowls you will need the basics for our – taco mince recipe, some rice and then just choose your favourite taco toppings!

For the taco mince – a tasty Mexican ground beef recipe

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 500g beef mince
  • 200g passata
  • 3 tsp taco seasoning – we use the taco seasoning from Gran Luchito
  • Salt and pepper to season

For the rice

  • 1 1/2 cups long grain rice
  • Small bunch coriander
  • Juice of a lime
  • Pinch of salt

Taco Bowl Toppings – just choose your favourites or add in more!

  • Can of mixed beans in chilli sauce – you can pick these up in the supermarket easily – look for own brand version to save money!
  • Can of sweetcorn
  • Sour cream dip
  • Bunch of spring onions – chopped
  • Cheddar cheese – grated
  • Avocado – chunkily diced
  • Tortilla crisps – for scooping and dipping
  • Lime wedges

How To Make A Taco Bowl With Spicy Beef

You will love how easy our beef taco bowls are to cook and serve!

Step One – make the taco mince recipe

  • Heat the olive oil in the saucepan and fry the mince for around 5 minutes until it browns.
  • Then tip in the tomato passata, taco seasoning and a pinch of salt and black pepper. Mix well to combine all the flavours.
  • Bring the pan to the boil and then reduce the heat and cook with the lid on for around 20 minutes or until cooked through properly.

Cooks Note! You can make the taco mince in the slow cooker – get the taco mince recipe here

Cooks Note! If making the taco mince ahead of time, cool within 2 hours of making and store in the fridge for up to 48 hours and use before the use-by date on the meat. To reheat warm on the hob until thoroughly heated through.

Step Two – prepare the taco bowl toppings

  • Get all your taco toppings ready and put into mini serving bowls ready for everyone to help themselves.

Step Three – cook the rice

  • Cook the rice as per the packet instructions in salted water.
  • Once cooked, drain and mix in the chopped coriander and a squeeze of lime juice.

Cooks Note! To save time you could use sachets of flavoured microwave rice, the Tilda Lime and Coriander pack is great with this spicy Mexican mince recipe!

Step Four – serve the taco bowls with spicy beef

  • Arrange the spicy taco mince, the flavoured rice and all the taco bowl toppings on the table for everyone to help themselves.

Then just let everyone build their own spicy beef bowl and tuck in!

What To Put In A Taco Bowl

Okay, when it comes to filling up your bowl you can really make it all about you! Put in the things you really like to eat – we’ve popped some delicious ideas below!

Add in some protein!

  • Spicy stir fry beef
  • Mixed beans in chilli sauce
  • Marinated tofu
  • Plant based mince
  • Spicy lentils
  • Handful of spicy nuts

  • Roasted peppers
  • Roasted Mediterranean vegetables
  • Guacamole
  • Homemade salsa
  • Shredded greens

Add in some sauces!

  • Salsa
  • Sour cream dip
  • Cheese dip

Love Your Leftovers!

Leftover taco mince and taco toppings can be stored in the fridge and used within 24 hours. So are great for dinner again next day.
