I’ve been sent a Tefal Actifry Family to review, so before I start cooking up a storm and creating some nice easy family food I thought I’d just share my first impressions.
It’s years since we owned a ‘chip pan’ because of not wanting to eat unhealthily so I’m really excited to be trying out the Tefal Actifry as it offers ‘proper chips’ but cooked in only a tiny amount of healthy olive oil. I can’t wait to give it a try!
The Actifry Family is quite large but does fit easily into a cupboard for storage and is surprisingly light-weight so it’s going to be no problem lifting in and out of the cupboard.
I’m quite pleased with the fact that the Actifry doesn’t need to warm up, you just switch it on and cooking starts immediately.
I’m also very pleased with the fact I can use olive oil and rapeseed oil for cooking and that I really only need a very small amount of oil to cook.
I love the fact it makes enough chips for six people in one go, this makes family cooking much easier.
I’m also liking the fact I can just switch it on to cook and other than nipping in to keep an eye on it from time to time that’s the extent of the involvement in the cooking process.
The Tefal Actifry was very easy to take apart and refit together all the pieces come apart very simply and if you’re lucky enough to own a dishwasher all the cooking components can be washed in there!
The Tefal Actifry has a clear lid so you can easily see your food cooking – this will save time on having to keep lifting off the lid to check on food.
The Actifry is simple to switch on/off with just the one button and to programme the cooking time it’s just a matter of keying in the number of minutes you’d like the food to cook for.
You open up the Tefal Actifry by pressing the square white button on the front. The lid lifts automatically.
Inside you can see the Tefal Actifry has a non stick food pan with a paddle in the centre. During the cooking process this paddle turns around slowly so the food is constantly being moved and stirred as it cooks.
The Actifry pan has an easy to operate foldable handle so you can easily lift the food out at the end of the cooking time. The cooking pan is very light weight and easy to remove from the Actifry safely even when hot.
The Actifry comes with an oil measuring spoon so you can make sure you’re using just the right amount of oil. You can cook with a variety of different oils from standard olive oil, rapeseed oil and sunflower oil to more speciality oils like sesame, almond and hazelnut. You can even use flavour infused oils like olive oil with chilli or lemon for example, which I think would be kind of nice used with some chicken strips!
The Tefal Actifry comes with two booklets the standard instructions and a recipe book. The standard instructions detail in an easy to follow exactly how to use the Actifry, how to dismantle and reassemble the parts that need washing. It also has tables of how much food, oil and time you need to cook different things from potatoes and vegetables through to different meats, seafood and poultry.
The recipe booklet is filled with delicious looking recipes because the Actifry isn’t just for chips! Oh no you can make all sorts of healthy dinners in it from stir fry to risotto and even desserts like apple popcorn!
Well with all that talk of chips….. It’s only right I chipped up some potatoes and gave them a try right away…. Once I’ve had chance to cook a few different recipes I’ll be back with a review of how to get the best out of your Actifry and some delicious recipes to try.
