Autumn means the return of the ‘preppy look’. This is a look I love, just a few wardrobe essentials can really add a preppy vibe to your style. It’s an effortless look to pull off which is definitely a win. I’ve listed my ‘preppy look’ wardrobe essentials which you can use to mix and match into your existing clothes to create the look.
10 wardrobe essentials for a preppy look
I LOVEEEE blazers they can really dress up any casual outfit for any event. Pair easily with jeans or short dresses with tights.
In the colder months a nice scarf is a great addition to an outfit – always gives it a more ‘pulled together’ look.
Shirts always help an outfit look more dressed up and preppy – always have a cotton or linen shirt in white and then one other colour – pale pink or blue are great for mixing into winter outfits. You can wear these over vest tops and also add layers with cardigans and gilets.
As well as the usual jeans it’s great to add in a pair of more dressy trousers. I personally love cigarette trousers as they’re so easy to wear and include in great outfits.
For a preppy look you can’t go wrong with a gingham or tartan skirt – they’re so on-trend right now and look great with the whole preppy look.
I love chelsea boots! Especially coming into the fall season they are great to wear and they also look amazing with a skirt and tights as well as jeans.
Turtle Neck Tops
I can’t get enough of turtle necks they look great with all the essentials in this list you can dress them up and still be comfortable! Good to have a few different colours in your wardrobe.
Grab yourself a couple of pairs of tights – go for fine knit in plain colours so you can mix and match them into your outfits.
A simple plain coloured trench coat will look great for a preppy look I’d lean to white or beige coloured coat as it will match any outfit and still look simple and effortless.
Sometimes heels can get a bit uncomfortable or you might be in a rush so need to move fast! So I sometimes resort to some plimsolls as although they are casual they can easily be dressed up and look perfect for a preppy style.
Hair and make-up for a preppy look
Keep it paired back and simple – go for messy buns or french twists with strands of hair framing your face. Keep make-up simple and barely there. Focus on good moisturiser to protect the skin in colder weather and keep make-up natural.
