A hint of autumn is in the air, thoughts have turned to grabbing the last sunshine, with a snatched dinner in the garden, albeit wearing a jumper, but still it’s nice to eat alfresco whilst the weather holds. A few candles, a tumbler of icy wine and a platter of seasonal antipasti all making Friday good.
The Barefoot Refresh wine was sent for review and really brought a light and refreshing note to Friday’s dinner.
Saturday launched the autumn vibe for me with a glorious day spent at Quarry Bank Mill, you may have seen this atmospheric historic mill and grounds featured in the Channel 4 TV series The Mill.
The Mill tells the stories of life at Quarry Bank Mill during the 1830s when the Industrial Revolution was changing the country
A fascinating place to visit with the kids, taking them on the apprentices journey, showing them what life would’ve been like in the Apprentice House and just how hard those apprentices had to work in the mill. The children’s tour is a must, poignant and a fabulous learning opportunity – really letting them get hands on with history.
Saturday afternoon had us just squeezing in time to celebrate the last glimpses of summer with amazing ice cream. Proper artisan ice-cream that tastes amazing, just like ice-cream is supposed to. This bubblegum sugar sprinkle creation is from Golds Ice-Cream – based in Wigan.
I don’t know about you but autumn always makes me want to cosy-up at home, to eat seasonal, filling dinners and to cook with delicious fresh produce and for this I always turn to a more Italian based diet. Filling, delicious but still with a healthy vibe.
I want to come out of autumn and winter without needing to loose a few pounds for summer. If I try to stick (as much as possible) to eating fresh homemade Italian style food I know won’t spend spring dropping a dress size!
With beautiful tasty food like our awesome aubergine bruschetta.
And fiery spaghetti with prawns and rocket to tuck into, all I can say is bring on the autumn!
Sunday had a chilled out vibe, what with the whole back to school thing going on, it’s nice to spend Sunday just relaxing, catching up on the homework (yes already) and cooking some good food to enjoy together. We’ve got our school morning routine nailed thankfully, and just a little Sunday night preparation is key to a stress free start to the week.
I’m looking forward to seeing what autumn has lined up for me…
