- 120g plain flour
- 3 large eggs
- 200ml milk
- 100ml sunflower oil
Equipment Needed
- Mixing bowl
- Wooden spoon - or whisk
- Measuring jug
- 6-hole Yorkshire pudding tin (in the US these are called popover pan or popover tins)
How To Make Yorkshire Puddings
Okay, so it's super easy to make these little puddings, just follow these instructions and in no time at all you'll be tucking into homemade Yorkshires!
Step One - Preheat the oven
- Preheat the oven to 220C / 425F / Gas Mark 7 / 200C (fan oven)
Step Two - Mix up the Yorkshire Pudding batter recipe
- Add the flour to a mixing bowl and make a well in the centre of the bowl.
- Crack in the eggs and pour in around 50ml of the milk.
- Move your wooden spoon around the well in small circles of the bowl, mixing the eggs and milk together and taking in just a little of the flour in each mix.
- As the home made Yorkshire puddings batter becomes stiffer, add in more milk, just a little at a time, until all the flour, milk and eggs have been combined into a silky, lump free Yorkshire pudding batter that's like the consistency of double cream. You can season with salt, although we don't tend to as it will be smothered in gravy.
- Pour the batter into the measuring jug - this just makes it easier to pour into the baking tin.
- Let the Yorkshire pudding batter rest for around 15 minutes prior to cooking.
Step Three - Cook the Yorkshire Puddings
- Divide the sunflower oil equally between the 6-holes in the Yorkshire pudding tin. And place it in the oven so that the oil can really get hot! You can cook Yorkshire pudding in beef drippings if you prefer.
- Leave the oil heating in the oven for around 5 minutes. Then carefully remove the Yorkshire pudding tray from the oven and quickly pour in the Yorkshire Pudding batter. Dividing it as equally as you can between the 6-holes.
- Put the home made Yorkshire puddings into the oven to bake. Once they're in the oven, DON'T OPEN THE OVEN DOOR! Not even to peep! This will stop them rising as well as they should.
- Cook the Yorkshire puddings for around 25-30 minutes until they're well risen, golden brown little puffs of deliciousness! Honestly, perfect Yorkshire puddings!

Can pancake batter be used for Yorkshire pudding?
Yes! It's literally exactly the same thing - just cooked in the oven instead of fried in a pan.
Is Yorkshire pudding a dessert?
Well it is in our house! I always do extra or cook another big one in a separate tray and use it as a Yorkshire Pudding Dessert! Served with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream and a drizzle of golden syrup, it's completely delicious!
Can I freeze home made Yorkshire puddings?
The cooked puddings can be cooled down and frozen, then cooked from frozen in a hot oven (200C) for around 10 minutes. Be sure to check they're a piping hot temperature throughout before eating.
